#122 GXL LAN Fall 2014 in News
RhetoricalAnarchistI'm gonna try and go; any idea what the best way to get to Philly from the Boston area would be, trains buses etc?

i took greyhound from philly to boston for pax last year. $50 round trip. best way to go. youd spend more than that in tolls alone if you drove.

The only downside is the Manhattan port authority. You will have to change buses there. There are no benches to sit down on by the gates so you might have to stand around for a while. I also saw a bum washing his balls in the mens room sink there, so avoid that bathroom, or at least the sink.

I'll be letting people stay at my apartment (I live about 35 mins away from GXL). This will be mostly just teammates and close friends (edwin, im looking at you) who would rather not pay for a hotel. If you know me really well hit me up for a free place to sleep. I may also be able to pick a few people up from Philly international on Thursday or Friday.

With so many people flying out for this how are they all going to be able to find PCs to play on?

#25 I just cant play games anymore. in Off Topic

Maybe it's just me being older, but I still enjoy single player games. I grew up playing them, and I was there for the birth of online gaming. While I did get started with competitive gaming in its infancy (14.4 dial up AOL connection ftw) I've always been able to enjoy a good SP game.

These days the game has to be REALLY good to hold my attention. Great gameplay (portal), an interesting story/setting (the stalker series), great writing (the walking dead series by telltale), a throwback to my youth (shadow warrior), or just something all around incredible (half-life). The other games out there don't really interest me as much as they did before I got seriously involved with TF2, but the exceptional ones still do.

Since my team died earlier this season I've been looking for a good SP game. Haven't launched TF2 in like 3 weeks. Come on wolfenstein!

#7 oral history in Off Topic

Writing 20 pages on any one subject is hard. Killings idea of challenging the traditional notion of sports is great, run with that. Also, if I were you, when my writing felt like it was getting stale, I'd branch off onto the subject of violence in video games and how games (as well as music) are always made to be the scapegoat in the wake of a violent event (like the columbine shooting in the late 90s). Defending video games against those claims could easily fill quite a few pages. As long as you keep it even slightly connected to your topic of the rising popularity of competitive gaming (which should be easy) that'll help fill pages and change up the vibe so it doesn't just sound like "I like video games" for 10 minutes / 20 pages to the average person. You could then transition back to your core topic by talking about how instead of being tied to real world violence, gaming can be linked to great charity work like tip of the hats. Enlighten them, fill pages, and promote the community. Wins all around.

phAZEGeno's, Jims, or Pats. Tony Luke's is good too tho. Take your pick.

Pats is THE BEST. End of discussion.

Visitors are always distracted by the fact that right across the street is Genos with all the lights. It looks like a fucking casino. Genos isn't bad, but you don't get as much meat there, and the taste isn't quite as good as pats either IMO.

Jim's (corner of 4th & South) is also really good. It's also on south street which has a lot of good bars.

Tony Luke's sucks. It's all grease and gristle.

Pat's
Jim's
Geno's

In that order. Trust me on this. Lived in Philly my whole life, and I'm 32 now. I know my cheesesteaks.

If sign ups keep up at this pace it'll sell out and it'll be all TF2 people so there won't be any random minecraft kids to worry about.

Realistically tho we will get a large area for comp TF2 players like in years past, but considering how big this will be hopefully nick can work out some group seating for teams in advance.
