#21 ESEA Invite: eLevate TF2 vs. Street Hoops eSports in Events
mustardoverlordmustardoverlorddid tagg really just say that ma3la on pyro was the reason elevate was winning at first l0l
to clarify, ma3la on full time pyro completely fucked his team over

Don't think you if Tagg had that kind of analysis, he would have a legitimate reason? Like, maybe he was actually right?

I mean, yeah, it's all subjective and whatever, but Tagg has great insight and I've seen Ma3la use pyro effectively while in-game with him.

Ma3la plays steady pyro rather well, and he's made it really effective starting in parts of last season. Even Ma3la will say that it's still hard to dictate times where spawning pyro is outright better than soldier, but he's still shown to do it well.

#8 GTX 970 in Hardware

I despise my GTX 970. It's EVGA, for what it's worth.

In just about any game I play, my FPS goes from ~250 to ~60. It lasts for about 5 seconds, and it happens roughly every 15 seconds. It makes it a hell of a lot more annoying if you're playing on a 120/144hz monitor, too.

I've seen a lot of people have this issue, but Nvidia seems really stumped about it. The part that's even better about this that I bought the 970 a couple months back. After realizing how shitty it is (and it was past the refund window at this point), I upgraded every single piece of hardware in my computer except my SSD. I formatted, got everything set up, install a few games, and I have the exact same problem with an entirely different computer.

The Nvidia customer support has been less than helpful, with stupid fucks saying shit to me like "oh, well 60 FPS is actually quite acceptable."

lol?????????

I didn't have this shitty problem with any of the older video cards I've tried. I could just use my old video card in the meantime, but my old video card doesn't run Payday 2 that well.

And when I mean any game, I really mean just about any game in any scenario. CS:GO, TF2, Terraria, Payday 2, etc. I could be on the main menu and I would still get these FPS drops. It's pretty fucking bad. The only game that I've seen it not affect is Quake Live. And that's really worthless because a video card from 2001 could make Quake 3 / Live run at 125 FPS.

You could buy it and see if it affects you too, then just return it if it does. I was pretty busy when I first bought it, so I didn't really recognize it until it was too late. So, this fucking sucks for me.

#10 EVO2015 thread in Other Games
Ben_FranklinI am going this year to compete in Ultra Street Fighter IV, hoping I don't go 0-2 and as a T. Hawk player, I don't want to run into a Blanka main, ever.

Eh, just learn Balrog and counterpick.

Rockkkkkkkhopefully some omega street fighter stuff happens.

#162 eXtv-Vlog: The Future in TF2 General Discussion
eXtineJust wanted to clarify this section, otherwise Dashner's post is well said and very agreeable.

More than trying to satisfy a particular section of subscribers, A:R is an attempt to create a more appealing competitive format for the TF2 population at large. It's clear that 6s only reaches a small percentage of TF2 players and eXpanding that number has been a struggle for us. The popularity of Highlander has shown there is a market for viewers interested in seeing more of the 5 classes whose presence is minimized in the 6s format.

A:R is also an attempt to appeal to Valve. 6s can still be great without Valve support and maybe Valve can be brought around to support 6s, but based off of my several trips up to Valve I feel like they really want to see a competitive format with all of their weapons in play. The lack of in-game systems for 6s is a huge hindrance for the community, but we've obviously come a long way without them.

This Vlog wasn't me trying to argue that A:R is superior to 6s in all ways, just trying to state that I feel the need to focus on developing A:R/PBL over other community organizing efforts. I've been on self-imposed eXile from covering ESEA 6s, which is a whole 'nother topic, but would cover UGC 6s if I had more time available.

Time is a big factor for me. I've been wanting to do this full-time for 5 years and throughout the entire history of eXtv my availability has been a challenge. PBL might be able to secure that for me within 3-6 months. As Dashner said PBL is still looking at working with 6s. If I'm full-time then there definitely is the possibility I would have some spare time that could go to casting 6s outside PBL or working on tutorial videos.

I'm not ready to quit TF2, but that is probably an eventuality for eXtv as an organization as we are an eSports media production company. I hope if we ever have to leave TF2 it's for TF3.

I like your intent, but you are trying to "save TF2" by changing the competitive format entirely based on opinions of less than five people. You have this zealous campaign for A:R, and because you have a podium (your YouTube channel and PBL), I really think it's almost detrimental. We have spent so long making TF2 what it is. Entirely throwing all of that away to try something new with absolutely zero evidence that it would even remotely perform similar is really mind-boggling.

What are we gonna do if it doesn't work? Just pretend it never happened? Divide the community into two different gametypes, further tearing us apart from playing something in unison? Go back to 6s while confusing the fuck out of players who are trying to get into the competitive scene?

I know you're ambitious, and I respect that. However, I really think you're going about this the wrong way.

eXtineI understand people doubt A:R but I very much believe in it's potential to have a major positive impact for the TF2 community at large. We'll see.

And that's what I fear the most. I really fear that you're going to attempt to make A:R into something (through PBL or eXtv or however else) when the majority of the community is not interested in doing this. I really fear that this kind of move might cause irreversible damage to the competitive scene.

My friend has this mouse and I tried it out for a bit. I didn't really sit down and game with it, but what I can tell you is that it's a somewhat small mouse, and it's ridiculously light. In my opinion, it's almost too light.

#28 music you listen to when going to sleep in Off Topic

I also have tinnitus, so sleeping with music (or at least a fan) helps me quite a bit. Aphex Twin is probably my favorite.

#5 CoD AW Worth Getting? in Other Games

It has very mixed reviews on Steam (compared to most other CoD games), and it's really just a recycled version of the exact same game every year. Nothing to be really excited about.

#371 The 120Hz Monitor Thread in Hardware
alfaSo I was looking to get a 2nd monitor for a while and stumbled upon a good deal I think. I can get this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0AJ2983258&cm_re=Samsung_S24D590PL-_-24-001-916-_-Product

From my local shop for $160. Would that be worth it? If someone used this monitor before, I would like some feedback

If your primary monitor is 120hz, then I'm not too much of a believer that a secondary monitor at 120hz is necessary. I'm sure some people might utilize it, but I don't think most would.

Though, $160 is a great price for that. None of the reviews really mention gaming, and the "game mode" seems to only change the colors and contrast. I thought it would deal with input lag or something. Seems good enough, though.

#33 CEVO Season 6 Announced in News
downpourthesupremecommanderPharaohWhy not just push it back til january. Esea does the OH NO PAY UP HURRY NOW. Then 2/3 week extension, which generally, we've become accustomed to. To be honest, I didn't even realize signups ended until just now, and had intended on playing.CEVO Season 6 has already begun for their other games. I don't think they'd be able to start TF2 late because everything would be out of sync, especially when it comes to the CEVO-P LAN.
were they planning a CEVO-P LAN this season? i thought it was only gonna happen when it sync with GXL

Yep, TF2 LAN finals were planned. It would be pretty difficult to make that work now, especially considering it's still a giant struggle to get anyone to sign up and pay.

#205 Live from the streets in Off Topic

It's not like he said "owww the handcuffs are too tight," he said he couldn't breathe multiple times. Seriously, he was surrounded by cops and he wasn't gonna get anywhere if he tried. The chokehold was entirely unnecessary. How dumb do they feel that they didn't honor his simple request, which then caused him to die? Dunno, doesn't matter, they got off for free.

And not, I don't really bash cops, as I kinda try to stay out of these kinds of debates. However, this shit is inexcusable.
