#10 ESEA Premium Fees in TF2 General Discussion
reillyThere is an activation fee when you buy it, which is like $7 for a $150 card, not even a problem. That's the only fee I've ever seen.
They are also incredibly useful for people who don't have credit cards, and as gifts.

How is that not a problem? That's throwing money away for no reason. Plus if you don't use the entire balance within a certain amount of time they usually start deducting money.

#2 Video card/ my shitty build in Hardware

Why not skip the sound card and put the extra $30 towards a better CPU or video card?

#23 Can someone help me find a computer please in Hardware

If you really don't want to build it yourself, you could probably just ask a nerdy friend or acquaintance to build it for you.

#1 mumble settings in Hardware

I got a modmic today (after a 3-month wait) but apparently it sounds awful in Mumble, like I'm underwater. When I listen to it locally through the sound control panel or through mumble, it sounds perfectly fine. I assume that would mean that it's a problem with Mumble quality/compression/whatever, but I've tried changing all the compression and audio processing options and it didn't help. I also tried joining a different Mumble server, but that didn't change anything either. How do I fix this? :(

#15 New Computer in Hardware
frknWhat these 2 have said, except I would skip the SSD. IMO, an SSD is not worth it if I can't fit Windows AND ALL of my programs on it.

I would definitely get an SSD, even if it required a slight downgrade on something else. I built a new computer recently and having an SSD was by far the most noticeable upgrade. 64 GB is ridiculously small though, you can get 120 GB for a little over $100.

Just my opinion though.

#56 Yet another shooting in Off Topic
brownymasterBut honestly, what do you guys want? Where do you draw the line? Guns definitely kill people, and are made explicitly to harm things (but hobbies have grown out of it). A kitchen knife will never banned even though you can kill someone with it. Cars are amazing for killing people outside, but sucks for people in buildings. Archery is generally less lethal than guns, but they serve the exact same purpose as guns do. Would you ban archery too? Also, materials for explosives also exist. It takes a lot more effort and intelligence to pull off though.

It's not as easy to draw lines, and definitely hard to find an all encompassing solution. Unless you're behind your computer looking out. We can do without guns, but we could have done without alcohol too. That shit turned out nice.

No, I think that line is pretty easy to draw. Guns are made for the express and solitary purpose of killing. Not only that but they make killing ridiculously easy and impersonal and make it so almost ANY person can take dozens of lives in a matter of minutes. Kitchen knives, cars, etc. are not made for killing and have actual legitimate uses. Guns don't. There is no reason why civilians should legally be able to access something like that. I have no interest in being "protected" by gun-toting self-proclaimed vigilantes either--they are just as apt (if not more so) to make a mistake or have an emotional or otherwise inappropriate response to a situation as anyone else is, and the results of such a mistake could easily cause deaths. Plus it's incredibly easy for those guns to fall into the wrong hands (e.g. someone's kid, getting stolen, etc.) or for an accident to happen. It's just not necessary at all.

#7 Demoman: What should I know before lobby/PUG'ing? in Q/A Help

Yeah, a lot of the times the demo will get the kritz. It's best if you also have another combat class with you though--demo is relatively weak if you're caught out in a 1v1 situation.

Demo is good versus sentries, and if one is nearby and you're pushing you should probably focus it, but other classes are perfectly capable of dealing with sentries too. Sentries aren't as big of an obsacle in HL/6s as they are in unorganized pubs--they're not that hard to take down but they are effective to waste ammo and absorb damage away from the rest of the team.

#5 Demoman: What should I know before lobby/PUG'ing? in Q/A Help

Pay attention to what the rest of your team is doing--if you're by yourself there's a good chance you're overextending (or they're massive vaginas, but since you're new, play more passive and stay alive, until you get enough experience to know what's going on). Try to stay with your medic, but behind the pocket and don't take too much unnecessary damage. If you do all of the above and do something resembling a rollout (ie not walking to mid) you're already better than most lobby demos.

#14 have to present in school in Off Topic

Just remember that no one will remember or care about your presentation the next day. No one is there to judge you, and most people can sympathize with you being nervous about presenting.

If you have anxiety to the extent that it makes it almost impossible to do things like that, then you should probably see a therapist and/or psychiatrist, because as you advance in school or a career you're probably going to have to present things in front of people a lot. (Though IMO it gets easier in college because your classmates are more mature and supportive. HS kids can be assholes for no reason.)

clorgwhy do teachers always make people do this shit...

It's a necessary skill in a lot of careers, unfortunately.

#28 if i did it in TF2 General Discussion
zigzterI've always wanted to see the ability to "lock" arenas. Nothing is more annoying in MGE than playing with a friend and having some random spacebar mashing or direct hit using shitlord join the arena.

You could just play on your own server...

#14 The browser you loved to hate in Off Topic

Does it have any additional features that make it worth using over other browsers? Admittedly I didn't put much effort into researching it but all I keep seeing is that it might be slightly faster than FF/Chrome. I'm not dissatisfied with Chrome's speed, and unless IE has comparable addons and the ability to log in anywhere and instantly have all my bookmarks/passwords/addons, then I'm really not interested in switching.

What. Ultiduo is probably the worst situation to use the solemn vow in.

#50 All-girl, transatlantic TF2 HL showdown! in TF2 General Discussion

There may or may not be physical/biological sex differences that affect performance in tf2, but I think it probably has more to do with the fact that women in general tend to be less competitive than men, and that most of the women who play probably have less experience with video games in general than men.

BapeDo a fattest girl award, I would be on the edge of my seat.

It's ignorant things like that that help prevent women from putting much effort into playing video games. It's not exactly encouraging when you're constantly told you're bad and always will be because you're female, and people constantly assume that you're fat, only play medic, etc. I joke about it too but honestly it gets old after a while. Repeatedly saying things like women are bad at games tends to make them believe that, adopt that label, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
