FIN and RST are used to terminate TCP/IP connections. But Source uses UDP/IP instead. So adjusting their priority shouldn't make any difference.

I like the control center, spotlight anywhere, updated notification center, and card-based multitasking (finally). The splash of color. The clock icon ticking in real-time is gimmicky but I'm simple-minded and drawn to it...

I dislike the thinner font that makes it harder to read outside. Animations take too long -- to wake up the phone, to show you all your apps after unlocking, etc. The visual style of buttons is completely arbitrary.

They definitely borrowed a lot of ideas in this one, but a rising tide lifts all boats I suppose.

#25 DDoS for TF2: How should we handle it? in TF2 General Discussion

A DDoS isn't like a streaker because a streaker is caught and thrown out. And it's not like a rain delay in that the clouds eventually pass over.

Whoever launched the DDoS can just keep firing away. If ESEA works with its ISP to mitigate the attack upstream, the attacker can likely just start a new attack from an entirely new set of hosts. And finding the attacker is extremely difficult. A site I use for coding, GitHub, raised 100 million dollars recently and even with all the computing power and brain power they can hire, they're still taken completely offline by DDoS attacks.

I don't know how ESEA is deployed and managed, but it might be best if they could easily and dynamically set up and tear down new servers on Amazon EC2 or Rackspace or wherever they're hosted. Start by making an image of a currently running server. So you'd have a one-off server for a match, and you'd only let its IP be known to the players and whoever's running the STV, who would have to play with Steam chat closed. Obviously not ideal, but...

Sal needs to quit calling games for HRG with 4 minutes left :-/

Not only because he's confusing improbable with impossible scenarios, but he's basically telling new viewers to tune out because there's no point in watching.

Find a meetup group with people who share your hobbies.

Edit: Dammit, beaten by a minute. But yeah, meetup.com is a great place to start.

One year in college my roommate left an empty soda bottle out which attracted hundreds of them, marching in a straight line.

If that happens, the quickest way to clean them up is to cut a line of masking tape, and bring it down on them. When you reach the source at the wall, put a bit of salt down, which neutralizes the pheromone trail.

#21 Computer Engineer in Off Topic

If you're interested in developing software or designing hardware, definitely go with the CE degree. Just be sure you can put up with a bit of math and physics along the way. Most programming you'll do won't rely on any math beyond simple algebra, but where the math and physics will really come into play is when you look at circuits at a low level -- really low, like how electrons flow through a PN junction. If you switch to CS you can minimize this, but you'll be exposed to more math in other classes, e.g. a computer graphics class that makes heavy use of linear algebra.

I'm assuming IT means administration of machines, and the software that runs on them (web servers, reverse proxies, databases, etc). I've done a bit of that for startups, and there's definitely a good feeling of *owning* something and making it run as efficiently as possible. Personally, I like *building* things more, and I feel that I get more of an opportunity to do that as a developer. But it takes both to make something successful.

tl;dr: With an IT degree, you fix a lot of problems. With a CE degree, I get to create them. Feels good man.

Call his parents, as he's their responsibility. Explain that he's walked into your brother's house without permission, and started going through his desk and taking the cigarette butts out of the ash tray. Yeah, it's weird, but don't make it sound weird. Just state it matter-of-factly, because trust me, his parents know it's weird, and this likely isn't the first weird thing he's done and they've had to talk to him about. Growing up we had neighbors with a handicapped child, and I can assure you it's really hard to be those parents, so don't make it harder. And then just state firmly that the next time this happens, you will be calling them *and* the cops. If they protest, say that not all the locks in your house work, and remind them that their child is their responsibility.

Start with the parents, see where that goes, and escalate quickly.

How about you use a subtitle and have both sex appeal and SEO:

Subtitle: a TF2 @ i46 documentary

#14 Help. Think I lost my Id. Flight leaves next week. in Off Topic

From the list on tsa.gov:

U.S. passport
U.S. passport card
...
Drivers Licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)

Social security card isn't listed. It sounds like a temporary DL should work as long as it's issued by the DMV, but to be safe use your passport. I wouldn't count on a Costco card...

#20 tftv casters in TF2 General Discussion

Player A beats player B.
Player A is better, so you naturally focus on what he did right. (e.g. "HRG is so good, look at how they kited the uber, got all six out.")
Player B is worse, so you naturally focus on what he did wrong. (e.g. "tri hards popped uber too early fearing a sticky trap from b4nny, but they have advantage and could have taken their time, thereby closing the distance first.")

They're two sides to the same coin. HRG was undefeated last season and is undefeated this season, so it's obvious HRG is so good, but consequently it's hard to escape the "HRG is so good" mentality that leads to talking about side A more.

That said, as a n00b who watches the streams and plays newbie mixes occasionally, I think from a casting perspective side B offers better analysis and information. After all we learn from our mistakes, not our successes.

#14 Worst Movies Ever in TF2 General Discussion

Ballistic: Ecks vs Sever

Saw this with like a dozen friends on opening night because we had nothing to do. Possibly the worst decision we could have made. Ten years ago Lucy Liu running around in latex suits may have sounded like a good thing, but there isn't enough latex in the world to save that movie.
