#7 Major computer problems, in search of diagnosis in Hardware

Sounds like a hardware problem. I don't think it's the disk itself, but it might be the motherboard which has a fault when it tries to access it. My last computer had a similar problem, it worked fine until sometimes when I did something that meant accessing a file it would freeze up. The same disks worked fine in my new computer, so I guessed it was the motherboard or PSU. Hard to diagnose without having parts to swap in.

Anecdotally, I ended up having to buy a whole new computer with better specs so it all worked out in the end, and in testing it out I went through some un-played games in my Steam Library including TF2 which is now my favourite game after spending four years uninstalled after buying the Orange box.

#657 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion
kKaltUuI am excited for this new course valve might be going in.
It will obviously destroy everything my fellow TF2Center members and I have spent years on, but in the end it's their game.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. CSGO's in-game MM hasn't destroyed things like ESEA pugs, if anything it's increased their subscriber count as players decide they want to move up to the next level.

KanecoImpressive how they managed to drill a 20 inches deep 18 inches wide hole in reinforced concrete without raising flags.

They did it whilst roadworks outside were making noise.

Your version might be out of date. Mine looks like this:

It's in the 'properties (digital flat panel)' section. The only you want is 'maintain aspect ratio'. The available settings might depend on your graphics card also.

Might be a heating issue. Do you have speedfan installed? Other than that it might be a faulty part, either graphics card or motherboard.

#51 Why can't we add a button? in TF2 General Discussion
CondoMOh go die in a fire please, why does everyone always twist this into 6v6 vs Highlander.
You're completely missing my point. Why can't these two things coexist?

There's no way Valve are supporting two competitive gamemodes, getting them to support one would be hard enough.

And besides the point do you really think that weapon sales account for a worthy margin of their revenue?

Not just sales of the base weapon from the MCS, but stranges, australiums, killstreak kits etc.

The only reason Highlander doesn't alienate 5 out of 9 classes is because you're forced to use them, 4 of the classes are practically useless and highly reward lack of skill. Go whine about your slightly co-ordinated pub somewhere else.

You can cry all you like but a hell of a lot of tf2 players like playing those 'useless' classes and good luck getting them to watch/play a gamemode that cuts them out altogether.

#40 Why can't we add a button? in TF2 General Discussion
CondoMHNNNNG, not this argument again. Stop pandering towards their flawed reasoning for not supporting tf2.
Our version of competitive tf2 doesn't have to be pretty far removed from everyone's idea of tf2, they can oh so easily make it the idea of tf2. TF2 at its core is a very deep and complex team based arena shooter, albeit with some minor adjustments and tweaking. Adjustments and tweaking we, the community, have already gone and established for them, classlimits, weapon bans, class lineup, and etc.. What we have made is essentially a promod of tf2
What is there to stop valve from taking this promod, that we've gone and established for them, and making it theirs. What is there to stop them from simply implementing 6v6/promod into their game

Why would Valve support a gamemode that eliminates most of the weapons they make money selling, and alienates players of 5 out of 9 classes? If Valve support any existing competitive mode it will be highlander.

#30 Fortress forever greenlit in Other Games
PheeshpissheadI've managed to actually get into the tutorial. The game looks and feels better than TF Classic, and the tutorial is pretty decent, and the game even remembered some of my bindings. but I still can't get into an actual game. The problem is I alt-tabbed whilst it was downloading a custom map and can't get back into it.
What is the error message you get? When you launch it and go to join a server and don't alt tab what does it do? Just sits while trying to load a map?

I didn't get any error messages, it just froze up. I managed to get it working in the end, and even get into an actual game, albeit in windowed mode. The game is fun for a while but nothing special. The movement is fun, especially things like conc jumping, flame-thrower hovering and strafe-jumping, but it's like Quake Live, in that it's fun to move around but the game itself isn't that interesting.

It's like they've built a game around the worst maps and gamemodes in TF2 like 2fort and dustbowl. Even cp maps make you wait for a setup time on every single point. I miss things like damage numbers/sounds, plentiful health kits and shotguns that are worth a wank, Weapon variety too, TF2 has spoiled me on that.

My favourite mode is the attack/defend where you carry the flag onto the point. It's more exciting than the TF2 a/d because the round can be won in an instant even if there are twelve heavies on the point, just a shame about the setup times. I think if I put time into learning the nuances of the jumping mechanics I could have a lot of fun as medic or scout but it doesn't seem worth it for a dead game.

The hilarious voiceovers in the tutorial are worth the download alone though.
