SirBlitzkriegI used to work at a hardware store. Occasionally, we had a guy in who seemed very friendly; he was rather talkative. Then, he started coming in with a mannequin in a wheelchair. He dressed it up in different outfits each visit. He wasn't really bothering anyone, and he was still quite nice, but it was just bizarre to see. I actually saw him on a bike trail about 3 months after I left that job, but I don't think he recognized me.

Does hair loss run in your family? check that first
If not then it could be due to an underlying factor. Many people lose hair in times of stress (or even months after the stressful event has occurred). Stressful scenarios include both mental (anxiety, being in stressful situations) and physical stress (injury, sickness, etc.)
If you don't recall anything like that happening then there are a lot of other factors it could be due to, for example certain autoimmune disorders and hormonal changes. It could also be a side effect of any medications you're taking.
Also take note of how the hair is coming out. Is it in clumps or just general thinning, and is it the same amount each time?
