#240 rayshud in Customization

got the weirdest problem. the xhaircircle literally is not working. I have the font xHairCircle in clientscheme.res and this is what I have in my hudlayout.res

xHairCircle
	{
		"controlName"	"CExLabel"
		"fieldName"	 	"xHairCircle"
		"font"			"xHairCircle"
		"visible"		"1"
		"enabled"		"1"
		"zpos"			"2"

		"xpos"			"c-100"
		"ypos"			"c-102"
		"wide"			"201"
		"tall"			"200"

		"font"			"xHairCircle"
		"labelText"		"o"
		"textAlignment"	"center"

		"fgcolor"		"255 255 255 100"
	}

Just not showing up. It's the darndest thing. I'm trying to use this circle in a different hud, if that makes any difference.

Very fresh looking hud. I've been interested in making my own and I might build it off of yours. Once I find the motivation to anyway.

#21 windows 7 vs windows 8 in Hardware

none that I can confirm as functional, but I found this thing with a google search.

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Mumble#Overlay_not_showing_in_Windows_8.2FWindows_Server_2012.

might be worth a go. apparently it only works with the 1.2.4 beta so take that as you will. aside from that I just found a thread on the ugc forums about why windows 8 is shit or something, so this is all I have.

no overlay isn't a biggie for me personally so I haven't set out to find fixes aside from just now. hope this fix works alright.

ALSO. make sure you start mumble before steam. I've got a weird problem where the overlay won't pop up unless I start mumble before steam. if you're like me, steam opens on startup and mumble needs to be manually opened so that may be a problem.

KipAlso, Mumble doesn't work with Windows 8 so you have to get the Mumble beta or something. I have it and agree with what everyone above has said. Use the $14.99 for a 3 month subscription to tf.tv's twitch.

no idea what you're talking about. my mumble works fine.

I've only been working with windows 8 for, like, 2 weeks. idk how people have so much trouble w/ it.

e: for clarity, I downloaded the windows 1.2.3a(stable) for windows from sourceforge. works a-ok.

e2: did a little digging. seems like 1.2.3 had issues w/ windows 8 but this was back in january. 1.2.3a likely fixed the issue. try uninstalling and redownloading?

quick source: http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/126966/mumble-and-windows-8

e3: little more info on this. a thread posted here on tf.tv provided info on this matter. 1.2.4 beta, as you said, fixes this issue. however 1.2.3a stable does as well.

DunderBroSBARROHOTTOPICdownload skype for desktop, dunderHow :) ?

just download the actual program. you're probably using the built-in app and those things are kinda dumb tbh. download skype as a program and put it on your desktop, just like any other OS. ignore the app that comes w/ the OS and is displayed on the start menu.

apologies if I'm misunderstanding your situation but as far as I can tell you're using the app on the start screen and it's bad. just downloading the program and sticking it on your desktop ala other versions of windows should work the exact same as ever.

#15 windows 7 vs windows 8 in Hardware
conductorwindows 8 is windows 7 with extra features and some small performance improvements. The metro UI isn't actually bad, people are just big dumb babies who don't like new things.

this is accurate

WalkaFor example if you want to close a program in windows 7 you simply press the "x", while in windows 8 you have to click your mouse on the top part of the program and drag it to the bottom of the screen.

what the hell are you even talking about. only the apps operate like that, and you don't even need to use those. programs operate the exact same as any other version of windows, or any operating system really.

also: 1) how does the touchscreen-based UI make multitasking harder? and 2) the new start screen is just as easy to access as the old one, it just looks different. and aside from that new start screen, w8 operates the exact same as w7 w/ some very minor aesthetic differences and some really cool other features like the quick access menu and the charm bar.

if the metroUI is really so terrible for you then just download ClassicShell or Fast8. gratz, you now have a faster windows 7 with a couple cool new, although entirely optional, features. most FUD that people spread about windows 8 is bandwagon-y and rarely accurate (see #14)

e: btw #14 if you interacted w/ a computer running windows 8 for more than 15 minutes and still came to these conclusions then I will be amazed.

to the OP: watch some brief youtube vids on the bare basics of windows 8.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E1UxI5I_jo - this one explains the start screen and charm bar. use classicshell or fast8 if you don't think you'd like the start screen even after watching the vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0EspF7mY6w - this one explains the quick access menu. it's a fantastic addition to the windows 8 OS. this alone makes w8 > w7 imo.

feel free to browse around and look at some other ones but these two were all I needed to realize that w8 is far more user friendly than people tend to let on. regardless I do use ClassicShell because the new start menu is just a little on the "meh" side and I'm more comfortable with the normal start menu. there's nothing wrong with the metroUI start screen tho

#1 How to make "last damage done" appear? in Q/A Help

The latest version of knhud doesn't have it by default because the creator is a dip and completely removed it instead of just setting enable and visible to 0 and I'm a dip so I have no idea how to get it back. I pasted the settings for "last damage done" from rayshud and changed the color and font type to my liking but nothing's showing up in game. This is what my HudDamageAccount.res looks like.

"Resource/UI/HudDamageAccount.res"
{
	"CDamageAccountPanel"
	{
		"fieldName"			"CDamageAccountPanel"
		"text_x"				"0"
		"text_y"				"0"
		"delta_item_end_y"		        "0"
		"PositiveColor"			"knDamage2" // knDamage2 = Yellow, knDamage 3 = Green
		"NegativeColor"			"knDamage2" // knDamage2 = Yellow, knDamage 3 = Green
		"delta_lifetime"		"1.5"
		"delta_item_font" "knFontDamageOutline" // knFontDamageOutline for an outlined font
		"delta_item_font_big" "knFontDamageOutline" // knFontDamageOutline for an outlined font
	}

	"DamageAccountValue"
	{
		"ControlName"	"CExLabel"
		"fieldName"		"DamageAccountValue"
		"xpos"			"c-188"
		"ypos"			"288"
		"zpos"			"2"
		"wide"			"100"
		"tall"			"26"
		"visible"		"1"
		"enabled"		"1"
		"labelText"		"%metal%"
		"textAlignment"	"center"
		"fgcolor"		"255 255 0 255"
		"font"			"knFontDamage"
	}

	"DamageAccountValueBG"
	{
		"ControlName"	"CExLabel"
		"fieldName"		"DamageAccountValue"
		"xpos"			"c-187"
		"ypos"			"289"
		"zpos"			"1"
		"wide"			"100"
		"tall"			"26"
		"visible"		"1"
		"enabled"		"1"
		"labelText"		"%metal%"
		"textAlignment"	"center"
		"fgcolor"		"0 0 0 255"
		"font"			"knFontDamage"
	}
}

#4 Need help on determining gfx card compatability in Hardware

Well this has flung me into a state of panic. I did some more digging on the power supply and found this thread.

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3515/t/19459729.aspx

Since this guy and I are practically in the exact same position it sounds like I'll need to install a power supply into this thing, so now my question is, how can I gauge whether the power supply will fit or not? There's gotta be a way to get that info aside from buying all of this stuff and hoping for the best. Also pointing me in the direction of cost efficient power supplies would be nice. My eyes are going up and down a newegg list of power supplies and I have no idea what to look for aside from minimum wattage.

#1 Need help on determining gfx card compatability in Hardware

tower: bombch.us/3T [clicking the "Review and Checkout" tab will show specs]
gfx card: bombch.us/3U

I've got my eyes on a nice tower and I'm sold on everything except for Windows 8 (which I plan to downgrade from) and the graphics card. I found another deal pop up on a nice graphics card (GeForce GTX 650) for only 80 bucks and was planning on popping it into this tower but I have no idea how to check compatibility. I don't wanna let either of these deals slip but I certainly don't want a graphics card that's incompatible with this tower in one way or another. The graphics card requires a 400 watt power supply if that helps at all.

If anybody can help with researching this or has any past experience that'd be great. I'm far from adept at figuring this stuff out without a consultant.

(thoughts on the tower would be nice too)
