TronPaulIt doesn't matter if it was or wasn't an ESEA conspiracy. That's a non-issue. The fact of the matter is their software acted as a trojan. I work in the software industry. If we did that to our clients, our entire company would be fucked so fast we'd have whiplash. They haven't fired said employee, they haven't conducted a third party audit, they've given us weasel words and smoke and mirrors.

I can't imagine anyone having a shred of trust in them at this point.

I agree, and it seems you have to work in the software industry to understand how horrific this entire situation was. There is a reason (besides media obsession with bitcoins) that this story blew up to international levels on tech news sites. lpkane claims to have written and tested the code himself, so he for sure should be held partially responsible. It is fishy as hell that they have still not identified which employee included the code into the production build.

#18 Cevo in TF2 General Discussion

7pm seems a bit early (west coast is just getting home from work or eating dinner).

Why not move highlander to Tuesday at 8:30pm central and 6v6 to Wednesday at 8:30pm central? That way HL teams can play in both UGC and CEVO if they so choose.

Also does CEVO have their own server solution, or are we expected to use poorly configured personal servers again?

duderAll you're saying is you're cool with ESEA doing whatever the fuck they want as long as they pay somebody some money if they get caught.

It's more like "we are cool with ESEA doing whatever the fuck they want as long as we can still play vidya games."

I'm not even going to try arguing on this forum about that one. If people are fine with being manipulated by a business as long as they can secure their own entertainment, that form of control is almost impossible to fight against.

Then again, you have to consider that ESEA didn't murder anyone; calling it stealing is a bit far-fetched. What you do have is inept management, which, in America, is so commonplace as to be completely forgivable and forgettable by the general populace. Children who fuck up do not get my money and they shouldn't get yours, but who am I to say what little Jimmy does with mom's cash.

IGLAbsoluteHey Folks...

ESEA is also implementing a ladder system. Certainly you've scoped out your competition, so what makes your product better?

ESEA's importance starts and stops at their ability to provide a LAN with a level playing field (one of the only well run LANs to exist in NA), so until you can compete with that they will remain extremely important for comp 6v6 TF2.

Cro0Ked_mebIf their shitty website is any reflection of their progress, they are moving at a snails pace. My guess is that they've realized they have bit off far more than they could chew and are now trying to raise more monetary support before they can continue.debbie downer :(

Ah, I am only most critical of those I wish to succeed. When IGL was first launched it seemed really cool but nothing was implemented yet. Furthermore, their website is largely unfinished because they have way too many features in mind to implement and not enough developers. It's just one of those things where you want to shake the founder and say "why did you release an unfinished product early!"

What transpired the past two weeks is a case of an employee acting on his own and without authorization to access our community through our company’s resources. We are extremely disappointed and concerned by the unauthorized actions of this unauthorized individual. As of this morning, ESEA has made sure that all Bitcoin mining has stopped. ESEA is also in the process of taking all necessary steps internally to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again.

harbleudownpourTF2 community getting mad about something and then not doing anything about it

WHERE HAVE WE SEEN THIS BEFORE?
what is there to do about it? unless someone fronts $10,000 to start their own league or the community decides to raise $10,000 every 4 months for a league then there is nothing to do. top teams play so they can play on lan. that is the incentive to be a top team. without the incentive of a lan finals i know personally that many top players would quit. without the game having high level competition it will die. lan is what attracts viewers; invite matches are what attract viewers. if people are talking about the best interest of tf2 then as bad as esea is it is the best thing we have.

This is the first time ESEA is weak. Do you think the TF2 community should roll over for the good of TF2? No, we should not roll over, in fact, this is the ideal time to start making demands from ESEA, threatening to cut subscriptions, and threatening to stop participating in their league unless they change. By doing this we gain power, and by doing this we can bring attention to our needs as a community, for example:

- better servers
- stats on par with sizzling stats
- higher prize pools

If you scare them enough, they will come to the bargaining table. Even if LAN does attract the best and brightest, we have a window of opportunity to get what we want with little risk if our cards are played correctly.
