#27 The Unpopular Opinion in TF2 General Discussion

Nemrawd, can you revert back to not being a complete jack off. Much appreciated.

Kapowwdingotldr version? Before we dive head first into a Valve supported future by changing the 6v6 format we've created, think about two things; What Valve's support means and How far we've come.
This change has the potential of splitting the community if esea does not pick it up and players who do not support the new format will leave(since nobody plays tf2 for money).
TLDR: Is changing the game worth what valve will give us in return?

I might have missed this part somewhere, but do we exactly know how Valve would support us? Are we talking medals, are we talking about big tournaments with a huge prize pot (or at least a prize pot noticeably bigger than ESEA-I's), or what?

As long as we know exactly what's in it for us, then I don't see a problem with wanting to go through with it. If it's worth our time entirely, we should shoot for the stars. If it's not worth out time completely, we should consider but shouldn't completely revamp the idea of 6s. There needs to be a compromise, but we can't revamp the idea of 6s when we barely get anything for it. A little support after making a lot of major changes is less worth it than getting no support and continue on with things as if this wasn't a thing.

#90 New kind of 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion
LazyPandaTo be honest if drastic changes happen ill find some pugging group and not switch over. I don't think I could enjoy 6s if I'm running around and seeing 2 demos, a spy, and a brass beast heavy.

But what if Valve ends up balancing the Brass Beast to work in a competitive environment? I don't think we'll be seeing two demos, with or without a 6 sticky per clip change. I'm neutral with the idea of a spy always running around. I can understand why people wouldn't like it, but I also understand why it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

I think you might be looking too hard into the idea of change. I don't think we want to turn 6s into something completely new and different, except rather take the core of 6s, keep what is good, revamp what is bad, look over decisions we've made in the past and see if they should stay how they are or not, etc.

#14 State of the Game in TF2 General Discussion
brahsomething that popped into my head

if valve says they don't want to take a venture in this game without knowing it will make them a profit, they're being two faced as hell

they sure as hell have already ventured into this game and made a ton of money from it (f2p & microtransactions, sales from the game before f2p, etc). plus i'm pretty sure they get paid a bit from developers for having their games on steam. whether or not this works out isn't going to make them lose out on money.

TristanI don't actually understand all the focus on meta-game changes. I mean, how quickly does the meta-game change in football? And that has lots of viewers.

football also has been growing for decades and has been able to get to where it is today with a ton of improvements. with as much competition there is (basketball, hockey, soccer, etc) it's done a really good job. football has been able to make itself a sport where it attracts a lot of viewers and can keep up with other major sports.

with the tf2 community, the majority of them don't play competitively, though usually having an opinion on it. most of them would feel more comfortable with a competitive scene that fits more closely to the way they've been experiencing the game. that's where highlander comes in. if the 6s community didn't want to gain more respect and a bigger player base and audience, we'd probably still be the same we were 3 years ago. but we're not, because we're constantly trying to apply improvements. the difference this time around is the improvement we're trying to apply is much bigger in scale than anything we've done before.

#61 New kind of 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion

I wish this game was balanced well enough to allow bunny hopping.

Considering this is an experimental idea/league and could very well change how 6v6 is played, would scout/demo/soldier/medic still be the normal core classes? Aside from weapon restrictions, I think the other main obstacle in the way of people putting 6v6s into consideration is that. Not everyone in this entire game likes one of those four classes and instead like one of the others, such as pyro. Sorry if this was talked about, but I haven't yet read everything.

Anyway, I can't imagine it really being any different in terms of what the main classes are. On the exception of the pyro, at least. The class is just right at the border of being viable for mid fights, which is what's most important, besides capping last. Before everyone caught up, backburner pyro through Badlands closet could easily be devastating. Mind you, this was before the Degreaser and the other buffs the class has gotten. Pyro might be useless against scouts anywhere between medium and long range, but then again scouts are useless against themselves 90% of the time against other scouts at long range.

But then there's the possibility of people running sniper. No real need to further explain.

This is all from a mid point perspective. A lot changes after mid points. A lot of maps have a second point that can easily benefit the pyro and even more so the heavy. If this is all how I imagine it to be, as in this new, experimental league allowing teams to be able to run more than the current core classes full time to see if it can become a normal occurrence, I can only imagine what the mass reaction will be to specific classes.

I'm soon upgrading to Comcast regardless of what people say about it. My current ISP and Comcast are the only ISPs around and Frontier absolutely blows.

#15 First Job in Off Topic

I'm working as an over night stocker (10pm until 4 or 6am) and it's a lot better of a job than most places and most positions for a regular job. I don't get to work full time yet so my paychecks could be a little better. I'm not sure how grocery stores where you live work with night time, sunday and holiday premiums (I get 50c more than day time workers, and on Sundays I also get another dollar per hour. Holidays I get time and a half), but I like the job/position I have and the money I make, though I wish I was full time already.

TheJatshmaybe it's gonna be a good game and all but does this really belong on a website calle TEAMFORTRESS.tv?

Let me ask you a question. This is teamfortress.tv as you said, correct. There's a general discussion and an off topic section. If the general discussion section is meant for discussing TF2 in its entirety, then what would off topic be for?

pls respond

#87 The Weapon Balance Megathread in TF2 General Discussion
OafmealDead Ringer

90% damage reduction makes spy the toughest class in tf2. 1250 damage to kill a spy is pretty silly. Perhaps a falloff in damage reduction after the initial trigger to prevent body blocks, and encourage actual espionage/sneaking?

Perhaps the longer the spy stays cloaked with the DR, the more damage the spy will take. So right when he uses the DR, he has a 90% DMG reduction, and half way through the cloak, for example, it will be like 45% and so on.

Removing the question mark is fine. I remember playing the Alpha and then reading the forums. Some incredibly vocal cunt actually thought that being able to change your graphics settings was cheating and that people who didn't have "his setup" just shouldn't play the game.

can you humor me and post the link

yukiCondescendingCandlestickIunno, the people who make call of duty aren't exactly my favorite developers.
To be fair, CoD 2 and CoD 4 were extremely good games in the series, objectively the best two. Blame it on the activision milk machine - hopefully Respawn wont make 600 games a franchise.

gonna go out on a limb here and say BO2 is the best game released since cod4. if you ignore the so-so matchmaking, it's usually pretty fun

as for this game though, i can't say much but i hope its good

#1 Respawn Ent.'s game leaked, runs on Source* in Off Topic

* - Considering this is a leak, nothing is confirmed. However, it was apparently accidentally leaked from the Game Informer July issue, which wasn't supposed to be out yet, so it's probably correct.

Show Content

- Xbox One, PC
- Campaign Multiplayer, "traditional" multiplayer mode, and a "One-Player Mode".
- Spring 2014 Release Date
- First person shooter
- "Mech" and ground combat
- "Mech's" are called Titans.
- They want these Titans to feel fast. They can dodge etc.
- If you don't want to pilot the Titan you can have it follow you, killing people as it goes along.
- Player characters are called Pilots (male and female)
- They are extremely agile. Can run on walls, multiple jumps.
- They can take down Titans. Jumping on them and shooting the "brain".
- You need to be cunning as a pilot. "Hit and fade" tactics is the term the game director uses.
- Pilots come equipped with a variety of weapons. Pistol, Assault Rifle, Anti-Titan Rocket Launcher, data knife used to hack AI characters into joining you.
- There are AI enemies on the maps.
- You survive longer than in COD. Making it more welcoming to newcomers.
- Source Engine. Building new engine = too much time.
- Source gives them 60 fps
(Xbox detail)
- Modified Source - "Rewriting major portions of it".
- Going for a District 9 or Blade Runner vibe.
- Integrate memorable single player moments into a multiplayer game.
- Storytelling style will be more Left 4 Dead.
- Humans segregated between Earth and frontier planets. Corporation trying to take the resources of these frontier people.
- Progression system. No details yet

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, yeah, there you have it I guess. I'm not sure who else has been keeping up with Respawn, if anyone, but I'm pretty stoked about this as it looks/sounds quite interesting.

If there's anyone interested, the game will be revealed on Day 2 of E3 (June 12th), I believe via Twitch.
