#1 eXtv-LAN-Recast in TF2 General Discussion

Yao.

I'm sure there will be some haters, but eXtv is in the midst of producing casts of the ESEA S14 LAN Grand Finals. Yeah TF.tv did a great job, but Luc was bored and I'm trying to cast more, so don't hate, celebrate.

Here's Map 1, I'mma go lay down commentary for map 2 at least.

#150 Quick-Fix in 6s? in TF2 General Discussion

If the format was different would the quick-fix be more tolerable? If it's 30 min maps, a 10 min stand off just becomes more and more tense. It's when there are 2x30 min halves that a 10min stand off becomes REALLY PAINFUL to watch.

I wanna see more games @ ESEA LAN. bo5's 30 min maps.

who was doing the voiceover during the info segments? that man has a voice of honey and butter

Was my father in law. He's credited as Joseph Morton but that's an alias. He's a professional voice actor.

#193 America vs. Europe in News
I honestly thought it was going to be about how we are all bros in the tf2 community (even if not true)and we came together, differences aside, and raised $20,000 and sent two teams to fuel our nerd fantasies of top euro teams vs top na teams. Instead we got this.

How would we have shot that storyline without major resources allowing us to go and interview people around the country about TF2? We barely had 3 days at the event to film. We were definitely limited by that.

...

Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it Cause, but I don't really have much I can say to you. We're interested in hearing feedback and critiques, but it's pointless to argue about how much we "documented" and whether or not that makes us a "documentary" or a series of interviews. Documentary is a genre and that's the best way to classify our film.

Always enjoy talking film theory.

Wait till the "Free to Play" documentary from Valve about TI1. That's a much more proper documentary and the difference between the amount of resources available to eXtv and Valve is very apparent. Was awesome, wish we could have accomplished something closer to that, but it was difficult given our constraints.

I love how anytime people bash eXtv we're always painted as catering to newbs.

June, you have a valid reason to be a bit surprised by the news as yeah, we hadn't really discussed our distribution plans fully. we had hinted at having some sort of paid product and hadn't met with any direct opposition to us having some sort of paid route.

Movies take time to make. Not saying it couldn't have been done faster (or even better), but the docu came together without a clear leading document before the event took place and our main collaborating forces are in Germany, Netherlands, Texas, and Oregon. Kinda hard to get together hash out details and make decisions or watch re-edits immediately. We also all have our own obligations to take care of. We're not perfect, but we're also not installing bitcoin networks on unsuspecting user's computers.

Regarding demos, we were never in control of STVs. We wanted to have some sort of control over the player's POV demos to make sure that they were recorded + transfered to us, and to make sure none of the players made deals behind our backs that would hurt our own coverage. It was hypothetical paranoia that wasn't meant to stand in the way of good things, unfortunately it did elicit a negative responsive.

TBH our collection of POV demos from the event was kind of disappointingly incomplete, we didn't snag everything liked I hoped.

#214 i46 documentary in TF2 General Discussion

Yao, just wanted to pipe in real quick.

We can't release the 50fps version on YT, YT doesn't support higher frame rates.

We could have asked for funds to pay for Luc to be able to focus on this more, but there were signs pointing to that being a terrible decision. It came up sometime in some posts and people were upset at the notion that we'd fundraise to complete a promised project.

Luc's not surviving off of just eXtv money and I can't justify spending eXtv money on a flight to i49, so we're not eXactly rolling in it.

We promised a documentary and we promised we'd get it done. Apologies to June if he/she feels misled. We needed to find another distribution route besides YouTube and VHX was a great option. We talked to Steam as well, and I guess there technically is still a chance at that.

I hope you guys enjoy it, I hope it'll be another great recruiting tool for this fantastic community.
