#532 GXL LAN 2015 in News

If anyone tried to buy their ticket in the past few hours and got a "registration is closed" message, that was an error on our part. Registration is back up. Sorry for the confusion.

I haven't even looked at this thread in like 3 days because I've been so busy with everything, but please, before you go out of your way to ask me a question, LOOK AT THE FAQ. 95% of the stuff I'm asked is in the FAQ.

Tickets haven't sold out yet, so please stop asking me. I'll make a post if/when they do.

Extremely excited to announce that www.marketplace.tf, owned by Geel, will be sponsoring the event by donating $1,000 to the TF2 tournament!

Thanks so much for supporting the event and the community! Make sure to say hi to Geel and thank him if you run into him at the event.

drshdwpuppetTheFragilethat were quintessential to the production staff not going insane
Essential.

Blame Kevin, I just copied and pasted a paragraph he typed to me. :D

drshdwpuppetAlso, something I don't think TheFragile has said is that he will be busier this year helping/running many of the other tournaments, so he won't have time to chase teams around all of the hell on earth that is Pennsylvania to get them to play their matches. So one role that someone could do is simply be a runner to communicate between admin/servers and the various teams. Plenty of non-technical, non-camera facing roles to be done, and you don't even have to commit to doing them for the whole entire LAN.

Thanks!

Also, yeah, this. I'm gonna be busier this year, so any help with running the tournament will be greatly appreciated.

HELP WANTED

We're looking for some volunteers to help set up and run production. Last year, we had several people with minimal / no audio or video experience that were essential to the production staff not going insane, and we'd like a repeat of that this year.

The stream is only going to be on the day of the tournament. If you're not playing (or if you want to help if you get eliminated early on), send a PM on TFTV to KevinIsPwn or me with any production background (if any) you have, and we'll find a place for you.

exHere's my route, if you're on it add me and we can discuss.

http://beta.mapquest.com/directions/from/us-mi-east+lansing~to~us-pa-oaks/A5;42.746876,-84.483698/A5;40.131699,-75.459999

That link doesn't seem to work unless you click through a bunch of "yeah, take me through the new mapquest experience!" bullshit. Going to put this google maps link instead. Let me know if the route on here isn't what you want and give me a different one instead.

Less than 100 tickets left and here comes the crowd of people who buy their tickets in the last week. I wouldn't wait much longer to buy your ticket if you're planning to attend.

If it sells out, that's it. I cannot make any special exceptions for anyone

Also, here's the event schedule.

I really regret not going to this, but I'm going out of my way to be involved as much as I can next year. Hopefully it's at Ignite, again?

MR_SLINI see in the FAQ that spectator passes are available. Are there any details for pricing and limitations of a spectator pass? Not planning on playing just want to hang out.

Spectator passes are $20. The limitations are that you can't play games of any kind.

saamTo anyone who's gone before, is it worth leaving thursday, staying in a hotel and being there when it opens at noon? Or is better to just leave friday and get there in the evening

It's worth arriving Thursday night.

wafflebUT has always been terrible compared to quake, I hope they re-think the movement to be a lil less clunky :(

UT has always been on par with Quake in terms of quality, but Quake had a bigger competitive scene at a higher level. I would argue that UT's quality is likely better due to the diversity and depth the series has offered. Quake does do well with a "less is more" approach, but still, both games are great in their own ways.

UT's movement has always been mostly the same with dodging, except that UT 2003/2004 had dodge-jumping. It may not be as interesting as Quake's, but you can't say it's objectively bad because it doesn't have strafe jumping.
