#135 RGL Advanced S2 Happenings/Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

And across the pond, I'll provide coverage for #1 seed Happy Kronge Bois vs. #4 seed Goblin Zone in the semifinal round, with the winner punching their ticket into grand finals. The only loss Kronge Bois had during the regular season was coincidentally at the hands of The Goblin Zone way back during week two, in a 5-4 Gullywash thriller. Similarly, Goblin Zone lost to SpireIQ and The Agency, the other top teams in the division. During first round, Happy Kronge Bois dispatched Bystander Effect with ease. Meanwhile, The Goblin Zone had a crazy close set with late stage TF2 that went the full three map distance. Either way, we should be in for a good set.

#1 BLANC Esports LF Soldier S3 in Recruitment (looking for players)

Hello friends! BLANC Esports will be seeking a new executive pocket Soldier as we head into the next season of RGL 6's. brian from Granary has to step down as his final semester schedule toughens up on him (he's finally graduating high school, we are all so proud of him). Though we definitely had a rough start in Advanced, we're preparing for the sophomore season. Availability (or rather the lack of) fucking killed us during S2 so that's gonna be the most important thing moving forward.

Scout: zanda
Scout: Muse
Soldier: ?
Soldier: Crasian
Demo: Sleepy
Medic: Tery

We're in the market for a gamer who will learn with us AKA not immature, toxic, the works. Maincalling would be helpful but we're preparing our East Canadian in the maincalling business, too. Sleepy has humbly requested a more roamer-esque pocket so he stops getting dropped in every uber. There is also a chance that Muse would switch over to pocket - returning to the S18 Squid Squad days - so if that happens, we'd be looking for a Scout instead. Don't bring this up to him though otherwise he'll keep bugging me about it.

Should the coronavirus not cancel yet another esports event, we plan to hit up the RGB LAN in June as well. Being able to attend would certainly be a huge plus as 5/6ths of a previous iteration made it to RGB4 and I'd love to have the entire squad on LAN. Obviously not a high priority given the current situation and all that, but yeah.

Since it is still playoffs, our scrim schedule is a little lighter as I cast some matches and shit. But you'll hear from me routinely about when we're playing and etc. You can reach me on Steam (steamcommunity.com/id/Terywj/) or Discord (Tery_#5544). Thanks for reading, and wash your hands.

As Invite and Advanced are all happening tomorrow, I will likely grab whichever Advanced game Uni isn't. The more coverage the better.

More playoffs coverage from BLANCTV tonight with poopoo panic mode vs. Purple Air Pods - by recommendation of trotz21. Both teams finished the regular season with a 12-4 record, and their week 5 matchup ended in a 5-1 win on Metalworks for the poopoo squad. After casting some great Main and Advanced sets earlier this week, I'm excited to see what IM has in store for us.

TFTV will be covering Goblin Zone vs. late stage TF2 so I've got my sights on #2 The Agency vs. #7 TNR. Though we could've had SpireIQ vs. Agency if it was a four team playoffs... Anyway, during the regular season these two teams met up week 2 on Gullywash (with the original TNR roster) where The Agency took a 5-3 win. Now with a late-season revamp on TNR's side, they hope to make an upset happen. The winner of this series will go on to face SpireIQ, so if Agency wins we'll still get that matchup in the same part of the bracket had it been a four team double elimination style bracket.

#173 RGL Main S2 Happenings/Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

IT'S PLAYOFFS TIME BABY. First we'll check out Main's opener: the #1 Sword Art on9 Survivors vs. #8 Austin Anglerfish.

Following in halo 3 on9 family's footsteps, Sword Art on9 Survivors have also achieved a perfect 16-0 regular season. The difference is in how they did it. Sword Art - for a lack of a better word - dismantled the division. They had but one close game which was their final match of the regular season against the #2 seed BEASTMODE on Granary which ended in a 5-3 victory. They gave up five other rounds total. For comparison, halo 3 on9 gave up 20+. Sword Art have the distinctive honor of earning the most points in RGL 6's short history at 45.84 points. Along with their IM counterpart in Pastel Mirage, they are the only two undefeated teams this season. The pursuit of perfection awaits.

On the other side, Austin Anglerfish are the unfortunate casualties of RGL's ranking system, being seeded below two teams with worse records. Oh, and they beat both those teams (three times total, in fact). As such they face the juggernaut that is Sword Art. Outside of those wins however, they have struggled against the top seeds of the division. That is, until week 8 when they upset BEASTMODE in a 5-4 thriller. Perhaps that gives them a surge of confidence heading into this showdown. Unlike their opponent, they have practically no pressure on them. If they lose and go home, many would have expected that outcome. But if they win...now that would be a legendary upset. Here's to a good set.

#162 RGL Main S2 Happenings/Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

There's two crucial matches left to determine Main playoffs and I'll be casting both of them. With Whataburger Esports dying at the 11th hour, it grants just meatball a ticket to playoffs (seed TBD). With only 2.50 points of difference between these four squads, there's a variety of outcomes that will determine who will keep playing for glory and who will be sitting on the couch.

THURSDAY 10:30 EST - juggalos of cs:s (7-7, 21.33 pts.) vs. PLUMPWENCH (9-6, 26.01 pts.)
Match: https://rgl.gg/Public/Match.aspx?m=5859&r=40

As the team with the most points of the remaining four, Plumpwench have already secured themselves a playoff spot. Even if they were to lose 5-0, it's impossible for both the Stangers and Anglerfish to acquire enough points to knock Plumpwench out. What they are fighting for is seeding. Win by at least two rounds or more and they will get the 5th seed. If they only win by one round, then just meatball will take 5th seed while they get 6th. Should they lose, then their seed will be determined by how many rounds they earn and what happens in the Stangers vs. Anglerfish game.

juggalos will be the benefactor from the dead Whataburger roster, but they have their work cut out for them. Mainly, they still need to win. That will guarantee them a spot in playoffs while simultaneously hurting Plumpwench's seed. If they lose, they will want the Stangers to get the runback on Anglerfish AND for Anglerfish to not take many rounds. In a worst case scenario for them - ex: losing 5-0 to Plumpwench, they could still get in so long as Stangers win by two rounds or more. Taking as many rounds in a loss would help their cause, as would a considerable win by whichever victor of Stangers vs. Anglerfish.

FRIDAY 10:30 EST - Austin Anglerfish (9-6, 23.51 pts.) vs. Rodney & The Stangers (8-7, 24.82 pts.)
Match: https://rgl.gg/Public/Match.aspx?m=5856&r=40

The Stangers' situation is simple: win and in. No matter the scoreline, if they get the W they'll be in the playoffs at some seed or another. However you could also consider their case the most volatile, as if they lose they will need a ton of help from Plumpwench. If they lose and juggalos lose, it will come down to the rounds. If they lose but juggalos win, then they're almost certainly out. A 5-4 loss and a juggalos win is the only outcome where Rodney losing still gets them into playoffs.

For Anglerfish, they have the least amount of points so they want juggalos (the next lowest in total points) to lose. Any win all but guarantees a spot besides the aforementioned scenario where they win 5-4 but juggalos beat Plumpwench. If they lose 5-4 but juggalos lose 5-0, Anglerfish would make playoffs. No other outcome would work. What they do have going for them is a 5-4 win over the 2nd seed BEASTMODE yesterday, so there's that.

Since they are playing on Friday, after the juggalos vs. Plumpwench match happens, both these teams will have a clearer picture of what they need to get done. Of course there's a small chance my math is wrong but I...don't think so? Feel free to waste as much time as I did for something like this.

#152 RGL Main S2 Happenings/Discussion in TF2 General Discussion

With Rodney & the Stangers having already played both their matches this week, I'll be casting the only non-Newcomer match. Fresh Installs (3-10) vs. Muddy University (4-9). With both teams eliminated from playoff contention, the only thing on the line tonight is their pride. While Installs' record is worse, they do have a pair of one-round losses against the current #5 and #6 seeds. And both teams have earned roughly the same amount of points throughout the season.

Should be a good game? Though Muddy's recent two forfeit losses concern me. Hopefully the match still happens.

#11 RGL Points System in TF2 General Discussion

Consider this hypothetical scenario: team A goes 12-4 during regular season, while team B goes 8-8.

Team A wins every match by one round, earning two points per win. They lose every match without getting rounds, earning zero points per loss. They would finish with 24 total points.

Team B wins every match 5-0, earning three points per win. They lose every match by one round, earning one point per loss. They would finish with 32 total points. Therefore come playoffs they would be ranked higher than team A.

To top it all off, that point difference means that even if seven of team A's twelve wins were by a score of 5-0, they would still have less overall points than team B.

Is this unlikely? Very much so. But the fact that it could happen and end with such a result is ludicrous. Not to mention that one of team A's close wins could've been against team B. Imagine having four more wins than a team you beat only to have them above you in the standings because they "performed better while losing."
