#35 ESEA Season 23 map vote in TF2 General Discussion

Considering ESEA's stance on updating the map to the most recent version once the season has started (they don't update maps), I would preferably stay away from reckoner until the map is 99% completed.

In my opinion, the only reason why we kick out a map is so we can bring back an old one (gravelpit, coalplant, yukon, etc.), but considering that has always been the case for the past 10seasons, I don't see it happening this season either.

Honestly, if we want to change anything for s23 it should be the item whitelist.

#5 Connection failed after 4 retries issue in Q/A Help

Try lowering your server pings (steam settings -> in-game, -> in-game server browser: max pings / minute) to the lowest value (250) and see if that helps. Your server browser will take a few extra seconds to populate itself, but I haven't run into the can't connect to valve server problem since.

#3324 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

#3324, while a demo has always worked, I'm more interested in a method to force the mm hud on while playing locally, unless there is a repository of mm demos.

#3322 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization
HypnotizeProbably not the best thread to ask this but, since tf_competitive_mode 1 is not working anymore for me is there a way to create a local sever and run the comp mode so i can edit my mm hud?

Any answer to this question?

#3294 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

#3294, hudanimations_tf.txt, remove the ItemsContainer lines from #3284.

#3283 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization

#3283, you need to add the relevant hud animations to hudanimations_tf.txt in scripts/

There are three sections that start with MMenu_PlayList_*

#5 Durable earbuds? in Hardware

Unless you absolutely baby your earbud/iem wire, it will always malfunction. These wires are always very thin, and the joint between the jack and wire is never that sturdy.

Your best bet is to either accept the fact that your earbuds/iems are going to go bad every year or so, and buy earbuds/iems that fit this budget, or to get earbuds/iems with a detachable cable, so that when the time comes you can just buy a new cable for $5 rather than a whole new set of earbuds/iems.

For a detachable earphone, look at something like the shure se215

#238 ESEA-IM S22 Happenings/Predictions in TF2 General Discussion

June hasn't updated our roster page in a while, we aren't even sponsored by LuX anymore (overwatch is now a thing). We have spamfest on scout and june on medic, and our pockets have all disappeared so we are currently looking for one.

I think Megaboy is playing roamer in open, last I checked.

#5 A beginner's guide to competitve TF2 in Videos

I'm not quite sure where this video is supposed to fit in. We already have amazing resources for beginners in Marxist's Precepts videos and Sigma's Momentum in TF2 Essay.

As for the video critique:

You waste 2 minutes of the video with some sort of advertisement for 6s, which is out of place for what your focus should be on: A Beginner's Guide.

Your class guides are either wrong, misinformation, or lacking in core concepts.

Your heal order is completely wrong.

Your communication section has a good premise, too many people overlook this aspect of TF2, and we really don't have a great video on communcation that current exists. The Master of Classes section with pyyour is a nice resource but is lengthy for an intro guide.

I dislike claiming that only certain classes can maincall; figuring out your maincaller should be a team thing not a you are this class you must do it thing. Calling focus is something that everyone (that can do damage) should do.

You gloss over the non-maincall comms to quickly, an example of each type of comm as well as describing why they are useful would be much better. The biggest thing I've noticed with new teams is that they fill their mumble with useless information.

I like the advantages talk, but you miss the other 4 important ones: spawn, class, positional, and ammo.

I like your discussion of using an uber, but killing the enemy medic is not the goal of every uber. Getting two picks, capping last point, staying alive, etc. also can be viable end goals of an uber. See marxist's uber videos for more information.

Health advantage primarily occurs at the end of fights or at chokepoints, however what makes health ad interesting is that even if you are down players/uber you can still win a fight. That is the key concept of health advantage.

Focusing should be done in any teamfight not just ones where health is a factor.

The core of competitive tf2 is capping points, not killing players.

Check TASVideos's recommendations. Basically, if you want to play a retro console game the answer is BizHawk.

For desk pads the standard recommendation is the corepad xxxxl, but I've heard good things about the sloth e-sports pads.

#2 python coding in Off Topic

Python isn't some fancy language that needs a multitude of external programs to work. The majority of people use their favorite text editor (one that has syntax highlighting is highly recommended) and just run their scripts through the terminal/console.

If you do not want to go this way, and absolutely want an ide, try the packaged ide that comes with the python download, IDLE.

Oh for your other question, about graphics, check out the list of ui libraries here. TkInter comes default with python and I am a big fan of wxPython, but if you prefer to use Qt, GTK, etc. use those.

For game programming, the most common recommendation will be pyGame

#6 New headphones in Hardware

For rock and metal the standard recommendation are Grado, but they are out of your price range (SR60 are $80).

The superlux hd681 will not be great for your music preferrences, but offer by far the best soundstage of any <$100 headphone (which translates to being the best pure gaming headphone).

I will recommend the Superlux 668b $41 (which are taiwanese knockoffs of the AKG k240 $60) if you want a compromise between gaming and music in a semi-open headphone. For the extra $20, it might be worth it to get the akg k240, if not just for the better earpads and build quality.

I will also recommend the Creative Aurvana Live! $48 (I think it is on sale right now) (also known as CAL!) for a strictly music headphone that is closed.
