#39 Who pioneered 6s in TF2? in TF2 General Discussion
PhaserPheesh unfortunately that hard drive is long gone. All i remember was they ran frod and zet on sniper and they apparently didn't know about spies.

Yeah I remember Rambo being probably the best of them at demo/soldier, fatal1ty was just okay, the others all had good aim but absolutely no gamesense whatsoever so it was fun to beat them.

To clarify my first post, i guess i should have said that cevo was the first official league that held 6v6. Correct that animeman was the original person that started the poll. He did go by another alias, but for the life of me i can't remember it...it was same the alias he used in TFC for many years..think he changed it to animeman when he joined ae. Pheesh do you remember?

What was his clan before, or his GUILDS lol. I barely remember him from tfc for some reason.
I think of animated but he was the hacker.

In that first month I remember the doctors being one of the top teams, I forget what game they came from. They knocked us out of the tourney on 2fort and ended up winning it all the match after I think, probably vs ex.. 2fort was such an abomination to play in TF2 compared to how it played in TFC...so awful. And the crits...good lord. I think the doctors were probably overtaken by ex (reptile, Dion? and some other dudes) soon after, but not sure.

Rent A knight was actually playing when TF2 first came out and pretty much tearing it up as he always did in TFC, seemed like he carried AG I think it was? I don't think he was active for long but that guy can just pick up a game and dominate at it. He'd take multi-year breaks in TFC and come back dominating every time.

I remember there was no or little delay or slow for scoping/unscoping so you'd have two douche snipers strafing back and forth full speed firing shots constantly. Also, sniping people through the gates at the start of rounds was expected. (you could snipe through the material in between). Somehow that was legal at least in those early games.

There were so many annoyances with the game I think that's probably why I walked away from playing competitive after those 2 months. For some reason I still hang around after all these years...

phaser do you have any old match screenshots from that first CEVO tourney we played in? I lost mine, was hoping to find the one where we beat fatal1ty + col cs players team. It's my sad personal gaming achievement, lol.

before that first CEVO tourney there was a lot of back and forth about what the competitive format should be for TF2

I remember a lot of this playing out in irc scrim channels, the main pushes were 8v8 and 6v6...which a few offshoots of 5v5 and 7v7 tried.
I recall 6v6 gaining the most support from a lot of the folks that came over from games like cod and cstrike, whereas a lot of the tfc crowd favored the 8v format. 6's eventually won out and became the defacto standard for getting those early scrims on the basis that 8 people would be too many to travel for competitive LAN's and that it would be too hard to get sponsors for that. So thank those people for the 6v format as they were pretty forward looking.

Class limit wise I seem to recall the initial limits people came up with were a max of 2 per class...as I remember a team using 2 medics on more than one occasion. By the time that first tourney happened I think the medic limit was set at 1, not sure about the demoman..

Nfl teams sit starters after theyve made playoffs all the time..theres no pitchforks and torches.

Eh, there's a very real injury concern for their players every time they step on the field, I don't think FT was worried about a freak carpal tunnel injury affecting their lan performance. Also, the guys that replace them on the field are at least trying and playing their positions, because they want to earn playing time in the playoffs if possible. I don't think I've seen any NFL teams trotting out their wide reciever on the offensive line, or letting the punter be the quarterback for the game. There would be pitchforks and the league would come down on them hard, especially if they were a league attempting to get a foothold on a bigger audience. Noone wants to see a completely non competitive game where visibly noone is even trying. That's why the pro-bowl sucks :P

#35 The response... in TF2 General Discussion

It's always interesting how people can be so sure about what happened after hearing a story, then they hear the other perspective and the context changes everything that happened, despite all of the events witnessed being exactly the same.

Poor judgement all around, but it seems a lot of this situation was exacerbated by the casters. Assigning motives to other people and then coming down on them on the basis of motives you are assigning to them is a recipe for a lot of hatred and antagonism that really doesn't need to be there. When you are in a position to lead an audience that is really unprofessional.

#5 Some Build Help? in Hardware

You could probably opt for an i5-2500k and probably be fine without a new video card. TF2 is soooooo processor bound it isn't even funny.

#5 UGC-HL Platinum Predictions Week 2 in News

ah... Team player was the last clan I played with years back when 8v8 was a thing. Awesome bunch back then but I know they had to cycle through a ton of players to keep it going. Sucks if they are done; they've been around for a long time.

#47 over edits in Off Topic

I think it's pretty cool how much the lines are blurring between movies and video games, and how some 14 year old kid in suburbia can have access to basically the same editing equipment as major studios. As much as people make fun of the overediting some of these clips are pretty damn good artistically.

#36 I'm mad at misconceptions (about TF2) in TF2 General Discussion

having been a part of other gaming communities I actually think TF2 6's is the most fun to watch. I think the difference is the meta game is pretty different from your average pub, so there can be a small disconnect between the majority of the player population and what is happening in a 6's match.

The viewer numbers are quite good for TF2 competitive matches though and as you continue to advertise it I think that will only grow.

There's probably a lot of overlap with this talk, but he did recent podcasts on the nerdist which were also pretty interesting.
