#44 What do we need to do to make TF2 E-Sports bigger? in Esports
phobiaGotta somehow make the pub players interested in competitive, and that's pretty hard because a very big majority of them are casuals

I don't think that's fair to say.

There are lots of hardcore pubbers out there, they just don't know about competitive because Valve barely supports it. I pubbed for 2 years before I realized there was competitive tf2 in any format, and the only reason I learned about it is because a friend was getting mentored by a HL Spy.

Casual and hardcore gamers alike know about Starcraft, or LoL, or DOTA's competitive scene, or at least know it exists, but how many just regular gamers know tf2 is more then just a pub game? chances are the numbers are slim.

Goat_Just saw it now ordooo, try redownloading, if it persists let me know and I'll tell four to get to work on it.
Cheers sevin, I like em aswell

No worries, I had some time today to mess with it more, and I figured out it was just my anti-virus thinking it was malware, once I disabled it for a short time, I didn't have any problems anymore.

#60 ESEA and CEVO in TF2 General Discussion
MR_SLIN@#48 We could make an entire thread about this but the "top 10%" of skilled players in this game that people are talking about don't want the skill level of this game to take a hit, and switching to CEVO will cause top level TF2 to take a hit. The "bottom 90%" of players don't care about that, so they don't mind switching because in their mind, in the long term, the skill level will rebound.

And what's wrong thinking about the long term? In the long term, switching to CEVO probably is a better option, because as you said, the skill level will rebound, but as long as CEVO holds true to it's promises, CEVO WILL be better in the long run if people actually support it

The reason that the top players don't want the skill level to take a hit is because it's hard enough to find other teams to play/scrim against and taking that skill hit will reduce competition for them even further. The LAN/money itself isn't really an incentive for the players who just want to compete but it IS an incentive for some of the players that are currently playing at that top level.

Sometimes sacrifices have to be made to get a better experience. The only way the skill level will suffer is if the invite community is split. If all the invite players go to CEVO, suddenly they still have people to play against if CEVO supports that by making more divisions. That's what we really need CEVO to deliver on. If they deliver on that and the Invite community supports them, we will have no issues.

Skill level of the top doesn't matter to me though. I just don't want to risk TF2 dying because I love this game too much and CEVO has died in the past. I realize they're doing well with the other games that they support right now, but it's just not a risk that I think is worth taking.

TF2 is not going to die because of a switch to CEVO, because if that was the case, it would have died when the switch from CEVO to ESEA occured. You act like this game only has one league and only has one group of players. You have to consider that ETF2L and UGC have a decent playerbase and they are doing just fine, not to mention have said that they are willing to accommodate ESEA players by adjusting their current leagues if we wanted to make a switch to them instead. This is a small community, but ESEA isn't the only community of players.

To summarize, I think taking a risk on this for at least a season or two to see how well it does, is worth in the long run. If invite teams are so concerned about competition, they have that if everyone actually commits to this. If they just want a LAN and the money that comes with it, I think they need to evaluate why they play this game, because there are definitely more financially secure E-sports out there.

#177 Goat_HUD in Customization

Actually, I've run into another problem, probably caused by the recent update that Goat is working on a fix for.

Whenever I open the GoatHudSetting.exe, it'll open just fine, but then when I'm trying to edit things, it'll freak out, close the window, but continue running in the background, it won't let me close it in task manager, and won't let me move or make changes to the hud folder until I restart my computer.

It's really quite annoying.

#5 Is my computer broken.... in Hardware

Your video card is definitely fucked, your entire motherboard/cpu combo might be as well.

If you have onboard video, try doing what #3 suggested and make sure your cpu and motherboard are still good, otherwise you'll have to replace them as well.

#109 The ESEA abuse thread in TF2 General Discussion
enigmaare you personally putting your life on hold to put in the hours required to build a viable alternative league in time for next season?

no?

anyone?

talk is great but no one in this thread has any appreciation for the tremendous amount of time it takes to do anything of significance

Not to mention money.

Lots of it.

#1 Medic LFT Low open in Recruitment (looking for team)

Hey guys, my name is Ordoo

After some thought, and a slight change in schedule, I've decided I'd like to try my hand at ESEA Open. I was looking for a team in UGC silver, but it's been hard finding a team there, UGC being such a small div for 6's compared to HL.

This will be my second season in 6's and my third season in comp all together (2 seasons in HL, 1 in 6's).

What you can expect from me:

2300 hours on TF2
500+ hours on Medic
Light-hearted and easy to get along with.
21 years old

My expectations for a team are:

-Mature
-Wanting to improve every time they play, and in general develope a good team atmosphere (That sounded like something out of a mission statement for a business)
-Mature (again)

One thing teams might have a problem with is my schedule. Because of college I mostly work the weekends (Friday-Sunday) and I work til 9 EST those nights. So that means I won't be available to scrim until 9:30 EST, which is late for some people.

I have the rest of the week off at night though, so no problem with actual matches.

If any of the above interests you, and you don't have a problem with my schedule, feel free to add me for a tryout.

Thanks, and have a good one.
