#38 Help me choose a keyboard in Hardware
SolidSpeerlaiyedomoDon't use blacks, use blues, browns or reds
Have you even read my last post? I can only choose between blues and browns. Still not sure which one is the best.

If those are your only two choices, then go with browns, they are better for gaming.

Browns are a middle ground between being good for typing and gaming, blues are only good for typing.

#10 OpenPlugin in TF2 General Discussion
PheeshValve will never allow greater fov's because it basically negates the effectiveness of flanking/ approaching from the blind side which is kind of big deal for a few (non competitive) classes in TF2. They designed the gameplay of classes around limited FOV's. Scout's benefit from it quite a bit too in comp. Yeah it would be nice to run with fov 120, but it's silly to pretend it's not providing an advantage. That extra awareness is and always has been a noteable advantage.

No one will use 120 FOV...that high of an FOV in the source engine actually equates to something like 135-140, and it becomes far too fish-eyed to be usable.

The plan here is to just get ESEA to put custom FOV change on their servers with a cap of 110.

There is no gameplay change in that small of an increase, but it does make things a lot better for folks who are negatively affected by low FOV.

hookyYou will probably get VAC-banned. Especially if someone finds a way to hack the plugin to allow any FOV.

It's for sure banned in ESEA though, and if it isn't already, it will be.

Well, I've been using it since June and haven't been banned yet by VAC.

I literally cannot play TF2 without this plugin though. 90 FOV gives me terrible headaches and makes me feel claustrophobic. 90 FOV in this game is just too zoomed in...

Are you sure that ESEA client will disallow you from connecting with the extra .dll files in your folder?

I'm working on writing up a petition for ESEA to implement custom-FOV changing server-side up to 105 or 110. If people get behind 'color-blind' petitions and making changes for those users than they should get behind this cause as well, so that people affected by low FOV can enjoy playing TF2 as well. If you think I'm bullshitting, just do a google search for 'low FOV headache/nausea/eye-strain' and you'll see a shit-ton of results. Adding an extra 15-20 FOV to the limit doesn't change gameplay at all, so I don't see why ESEA won't do this.

SolidSpeerlaiyeAnyone?

Sorry dude I'm in the US, so the only foreign keyboard store I know of is - www.keyboardco.com - and it seems they are UK based, so I don't know if that will help you.

Maybe call them and see if they know of any places for folks in Germany?

PhrakturebreloomBlack ones have a higher activation force needed IIRC.
Which one is more standard? (if either fit that description)

I've never owned a mechanical keyboard so I wouldn't know.

I don't really know how to compare black and red switches to my current rubber keyboard. I have to press the keys moderately hard, but it doesn't seem on either extreme of the spectrum I'm imagining.

I'd say blacks are closer (than reds) to the rubber dome in terms of effort required to press the keys.

eI want an otaku keyboard, because ive heard really good things about them

The only benefit to Otaku-style keyboards is that they look sexy as fawk.

Get this one (with Black switches) http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rlab or get this one (with red switches) http://www.elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless&pid=fc200rrab.

Don't waste your money on anything else.

silitDrakeMegrimI'm a fan of Leopold if you don't mind spending a little more for better construction quality (over CM Quickfire).

http://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=leopold,tenkeyless

Most typical keys for gaming are MX Brown and MX Red.

Both are quality boards, but the CM Storm actually has better build quality. Sans keycaps, the CM Storm is from the same OEM as filco.

I guess you could argue that the Leopold's cherry stabilizers are more durable than the CM storm's Costar stabilizers - but then you'd be saying that Leopold has better build quality than filco (which it doesn't). Most people seem to prefer the crispness of the Costars anyway.

That said, if you're looking for a TKL mechanical board, Leopold is great - and is probably the best choice if you're concerned about aesthetics (the CM storm has logos and crap all over it) and don't want to spend 160 on a filco.

You should probably hit up the GH boards if you haven't already - there are a lot of very knowledgeable keyboard freaks over there, and many reviews of almost every mechanical board on the market. There's also a lot of write ups on switches, stabilizers, and all the crap you need/want to know.

Filco doesn't have better build quality than Leopold and certainly CM doesn't.

Check this post(http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=15310.msg295883#msg295883) from this thread 'Filco or Leopold'?(http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=15310.0).

#36 stock vs the original in TF2 General Discussion
wareyaOdissiusprojectile inheritancetf2 doesn't have any projectile inertia inheritance, you're feeling the lack of projectile lag compensation (which has an opposite effect)
and before someone brings up the flamethrower's Doppler effect, that's irrelevant to the subject at hand

I know you're right I just didn't know what else to call it...

#28 stock vs the original in TF2 General Discussion
obe_OdissiusThe reason that the Original is the better choice is due to consistency in projectile inheritance, ie. you aim the same way whether moving left or right.
This is the closest anyone's come to persuading me to looking into using the original. Can you elaborate further?

It's kind of hard for me to describe it but I'll try my best.

So, with the Original whether strafing left or right your rockets will come out of your body like this: |----+----| The distance you have to account for when aiming is equal on both sides. This makes aiming more consistent and easier. This also makes it a lot easier to know how to aim when you and your opponent are both in the air and you're going for an airshot on him. It just makes it easier to calculate where to aim.

With the Stock RL when strafing left and right your rockets come out of your body like this: |---+-----| So when strafing right, your rockets come of your body on the left but close(r) to the crosshair; strafing to the left and your rocket comes out a lot further to the right. So you always have to take that difference into account when aiming, and you have to learn how to aim differently depending on which side you are strafing to. I'd bet dollars to donuts it takes a split second longer to think about where to aim when using Stock vs Original, and that's why I switched. On top of that, when people are directly in front of you you've gotta aim slightly to the left which can lead to some whiffed shots in the heat of the moment if a scout jumps in your face. Also, when using the Original you're always aiming with the center of the screen and that's how you aim with shotty as well, so it only makes sense to go with the Original.

TL;DR
Original = consistent rocket deviation from crosshair while strafing = easier and more reliable to aim accurately.

I switched to the Original after like 40k with the Stock and I haven't looked back. Now just give me an "Original" Direct Hit and we're in business.

Anarchyokay i was the stock, but i was told the stock is better because the rocket jumping with the original is not the greatest and and that when it comes time to jump as like pocket you need a good jump and so stock would be better any body have a opinion on this

Troll post right?

Tell that to Techno that he needs "a good jump" so he better switch back to stock...

The reason that the Original is the better choice is due to consistency in projectile inheritance, ie. you aim the same way whether moving left or right. Also, if you are the pocket (where you will always have shotty) you are always aiming with the center of the screen, as opposed to off to the right with the stock RL.

Also it looks and sounds way moar l337er.

#2 improving shotgun aim in TF2 General Discussion

When I miss my shots with shotty, like a nerd, I just say to myself...be patient and aim better shitlord, and then I do.

Just take your time aiming your shots and try not to get flustered. I suggest MGE'ing versus a scout buddy and just using your shotgun.
