#143 Worst TF2 Frag Videos? in Videos

You guys have got to understand that despite TF2 having a great competitive community, it's still one of the most casual games ever.

If you doubt me, then go ahead and take a look at TF2's reddit.
The comp TF2 community is in reality very small when compared to the TF2 playerbase. How many times do you run into comp players outside of lobbies/scrims/matches? Probably not very many.

#46 Penciljumping: is it any good? in TF2 General Discussion
phraxthe uncontested best way to put someone on tilt is to hold w in midair in spire mgetri_anyone else a fan of the "pubber strafe" where you go to one side while holding w? for unpredictabilityLunacideive started w-strafing in actual games because it works so well on spire

you still have the same mid-air control, it just takes some getting used to

I used to do that sometimes when I was newer to mge, but I quickly found out that a lot of the people who are good at mge go by unaffected by the strat at all. I myself also don't have any problems airshotting w strafers, and I'm not even that good at MGE.

Also, are you serious about the mid-air control thing? Either I and every jumper ever have been missing out on something HUGE, or its actually retarded.

The only legitimate success I've found with strafing is by mimicking Platinum's 'fishtailing'. (https://youtu.be/5pv2roU7sR0?t=1m8s). People try to look for predictable patterns in your strafing, and lots of players (even the REALLY good ones) have problems when they can't find anything predictable in your strafing.

Jump patterns/strafing are kind of like choosing a mousepad; the ideal one varies from person to person, and there is no definite answer because some people like a certain speed/smoothness, and for the most part people rely on what they feel is best.

I've found my success by 'fishtailing' unpredictably, and you might find yours by 'penciljumping' or w strafing or whatever the hell you think is good.

#26 Penciljumping: is it any good? in TF2 General Discussion
Hellbentive honestly never seen a player that is good at rocket jumping ever do a pencil jump. it seems to only occur when someone rj's with very poor timing of crouch+jump.

I just tried it in thirdperson. I was able to get about the same height as a normal rocket jump, and I could pencil jump when I didn't hold crouch.

I did however find it way easier to get a legit pencil jump with ctap...

#24 Penciljumping: is it any good? in TF2 General Discussion

I have a pretty decent theory as to why penciljumpers are usually scout/non-soldier mains.

To my knowledge, penciljumping is when somebody doesn't hold crouch midair while they rocket/sticky jump. When you learn a basic rocket jump, you tap crouch, space, and mouse1 at the same time, and since there's no reason to hold them you just let go of them instinctively, so that its all one timing and you click all of them at the same time.

Most soldier mains I've been friends with have also gotten into rocket jumping at one point or another, and its common knowledge that in order to effectively gain momentum from pogos/wall jumps, you have to hold crouch. After a lot of rocket jumping, you start instinctively doing it.

When competitive non-soldier players try out soldier, legit rocket jumping on jump maps is honestly one of the most useless things to learn, and they focus on airshots, aerials, ctapping, etc, and they end up not holding crouch because it generally doesn't help you competitively.

Also, to the person that said it happens when you ctap, I and about 90% of the ctappers I know press crouch after the initial ctap jump, and don't pencil jump, so I kind of think thats an invalid point.

mdvi wouldnt mind a dx9 no rocket trail pack

I honestly don't think that dx8 needs this pack, because the rocket trails are minimalistic enough.

But yeah, this would be INCREDIBLY useful on dx9.

KanecoMightyStop pointing your goddamn fingers everywhere.
Normally no ddosser, 13 or 30, is stupid enough to leak all their information to turn a complex equation into 2 + 2. Trying to start some sort of witch hunt isn't going to go anywhere, and it may not always be the same person/group of people.

I wasn't starting a witch hunt or anything, I was genuinely upset that this has been happening to such a nice and hardworking community and felt compelled to ask for motives, even tho it was kinda like shouting at the sky.

But hey, I streamed our whole Nations cup game vs Russia today and averaged 70 viewers and not a single time we had lag problems, maybe the person behind some of this does have a conscience and rethinked his actions, maybe not. But I'm still happy I made this post.

This discussion needed to happen. It's not like we can all just shove the ddosing issue under the rug, because its a fairly big issue. I'm not trying to blame any single person here, but as we've seen in the cheater/hacker witch hunt thread from before, some people around here tend to throw out some 'not so hard' evidence and accusations. Even if a witch hunt does happen and we figure out who did what, it's not very hard to get your hands on a ddosing program, and it's very possible that another person/group can start ddosing in TF2.

That's why I propose that we simply get better preventative measures/protection, so we can make ddosing in general harder to pull off in bigger and more important TF2 events.

TL;DR
get some good ddos preventative measures/protection, and lets leave it as that.

blazethe insults directed towards us and the praising of b4nny, makes me feel great to contribute and be a part of this community.

Want to be treated like b4nny in this situation?
How about you start by not responding like a dumbass?

I'm pretty sure that most of everyone wants is
1. A Proper Explanation
2. A Sincere Apology

Have you ever gotten in trouble before? Because you don't get out of it by being a dick. We want you to put your hubris aside and give an apology to everybody. If your current stance with the community isn't enough to put your tail between your legs and walk over to say sorry, then I really question the common sense of some of you guys.

EDIT: b4nny apologized. gj.

being a good player doesn't make you immortalized in any sort of way, or in any community.

Face it clockwork, you and your team royally fucked up. Sideshow clearly gave you a huge amount of time to plan ahead, and despite the amount of time he gave you, you couldn't go ahead and tell your 'family' that 'something important has come up at x:xx. I cannot be disturbed then.' Even then you could not even give out a message saying that you can't make it, and I don't see why you couldn't tell anyone.

And worst of all, after the disappointment you and your team have made, your pride is so big that you'd rather give a snappy response rather than a sincere apology. Did you really think that people would accept that answer? It was clear that you could've gotten out of this a lot easier if you had just apologized, but you and your pride just decided to snap back because your skill makes you 'immortal' here.

TL;DR
Froyo needs to give a sincere apology to us, and until then there's no point in giving them any support.

#32 CHANGING WEAPON SOUND (WORKS IN SV_PURE 2) in Customization
Knuckles_MightyAfter some 'experimenting', I think that the reason why it switches sounds for the original is because there are multiple firing sounds for it.

If you transfer any sounds to the normal rocket launcher, they work fine, since it only has 1 firing sound.
SpannzerThanks for helping me on Steam, Mighty!no problem

I've not done anything with this, but ate there not multiple lines of text distinguishing the different sounds? I just know that w/ the explosions there were different effects for directs and things like that

There are, but the problem is that when we switch out the firing sound for certain weapons like the Original and the Scattergun, it switches between the listed firing sound, and the alternate firing sound(s) for the weapon.

EDIT: Strangely, this doesn't happen on sv_pure 0, but it does on sv_pure 2.

TL;DR
we need more people to look into this.
