#64 ShaDowBurn’s Fundraiser in TF2 General Discussion
AvastAh it all comes together.

Only the people playing games that are popular deserve money to be good at it.

At least I can rest easy knowing you're not objecting because professional athletes of any sort don't actually contribute a tangible service, it's just because you don't like people getting paid to do things you don't personally consider "valuable".

If it was the first case you'd at least have some intellectual high ground.

Pretty sure you are being dense now, you have created a really nice straw man about my objection to this. It has nothing to do with what I consider valuable, I have been playing this game since release and it has changed my life in many many ways.

If shadowburn is steaming and does all of this and gets donations through that of course I don't have a problem, I am personally subbed to a tf2 only streamer so it hardly the case that in don't want to see tf2 people get paid.

I object to threads being created begging for money and taking advantage of the goodwill of the community.

I had a job at 13 helping my step dad at his place of work for 20 pounds cash in hand, I then started working in a pub picking up glasses from the age of 15, working from that too wash up too finally working behind the bar once I turned 18.

So yeah getting a job at 17 shouldn't be difficult, in all my time doing these jobs I had plenty of time to put into gaming and studying.

You are a full time content created and from the small bits I have seen you seem to be extremely good at it.

I am assuming you do these things because you have a passion for the game and it makes you happy.

I am sure you also put this talent towards paid work? Plenty of people out there require this work.

I don't ask for donation drives for the happiness i get out of tf2, you don't do things in tf2 because you expect a monetary reward for it.

Dense? I do enjoy when people resort to insults.

This isn't a professional game, it has no developer support and is sustained by the good will of people.

If he had a structured plan for the lesson plans he was going to give, the tips and tricks he was going to teach me, in this hypothetical situation where I am considering paying money for lessons I would require a lot more than "I will mge you and play a pick up game from you" in the same way as I would require more than "I will 1v1 you first to 5 goals and play a kick about with your mates" from a professional footballer.

I am not sure why people find it so hard to understand that I believe you should earn your money rather than ask for it.

All this shadowburn protecting is a bit silly, I am sorry but this is how the world works, in order to have nice things you have to work to get them, the "donation perks" he is offering are things that he would do anyway not sure you could exactly classify it as working.

Being a student is expensive, likely meaning you can't afford to buy a PC, if you want to get a PC whilst being a student most people would thinking about going out and getting a job to pay for it.

People can argue that they are allowed to spend there money on whatever they want and of course this is true, I just think this is setting a shitty precedent, good at the game and want a new PC? Why don't I just offer some mge matches or a pick up game and get people to pay me for it?

Imagine if it was an open player that had posted this and you already know what the reactions would be.

I think people in this thread don't actually understand how the world works.

Perhaps the tftv add ons was a bad example, nowhere have I dismissed the value of what you do for the tf2 community.

I have already mentioned that there are donation drives I think are worthwhile and have put money towards them myself.

However this passive aggressive guilt trip post is a bit much in away, you should only be doing these things if you feel comfortable to do so and in a financial situation to do it as well.

Again you have done far more for the community than I ever will and this post wasn't really aimed at you, I had hazy memories of a donation drive for tftv personal and thought it was not in best taste.

However it should be clear in my responses that my point is to stop the whole "buy me a new PV or send me to an event i could easily afford to get too myself" type of donation drives.

I completely agree that people can spend there money on whatever they want and there have been worthy causes for people to donate too.

I just feel like people are seeing the success and are now trying to take the piss.

WARHURYEAHI agree with ya in some ways. Having paid my own way fully to all the LANs I've been too and knowing that other people have without having jobs it does kinda disappoint me to see some people doing such things when I know they are better off and could pay themselves.

LAN is a mixed bag because it has been going up in price every year, hotel accommodation is pricey and with the costs of travelling to and from the place afterwards it's a complete shit show financially.

LAN priceys are def going up in costs, as someone who has paid the way for every single LAN they have been too, and being part of a group of mates (I didn't go) who paid there own way to attend an American LAN I just don't accept this "it is expensive so I should ask for money".

This is called managing your own finances, people don't get to do things they cant afford, that is the incentive to either get a better job or get a job so you can do the things you enjoy.

AvastDo you not like streamers too? Considering they ask for and accept donations.

No I don't like streamers that constantly beg for money / donation and I do not watch any / give any money too them.

I feel like someone had to say something before they became even more prevalent. I feel that in the past they have been worthy causes, however more recently I feel that due to the success of these things people are now trying to take advantage.

Also saying "financial hardships" doesn't really cut it, if you are struggling to make ends meet the last thing you should be doing is buying a new PC or trying to go abroad, how about spending that time into looking for a job.

Hello TF2 community,

I think this current idea of a donation drive for every little thing that some prem / invite player wants for themselves is disgusting.

It all started off as a lovely idea to get the American teams to compete in international LANs and I have donated to have that happen in the past.

But recently we have teams asking to be sent every which where (i.e. Epsilon Dreamhack), players asking for people to buy them a new computer, TFTV add ons asking to be sent to events.

Seriously what the fuck is going on, how about people think about actually working for themselves and earning something. How about you earn your own money to pay for the things you want before begging others.

#164 i52 - great event, disgraceful viewers in Off Topic

Right, I think there are quite a few things that need to be cleared up before all the LAN dodging keyboard warriors can make up any more shit.

The so called "physical abuse" of players did not happen, someone accidentally bumped into the back of someones chair and it all got hilariously heated with claims that people were going to "fuck up this faggot". Not being funny but you lot should be pleased that people are willing to come and stand behind your computer chair and watch you play an internet cartoon game. Just because you are losing and are mad it does not give you an excuse to take it out on innocent bystanders.

The "rowdy and drunken behaviour".... have you lot never watched a TF2 LAN before??? the whole thing is about the community getting together and having a few drinks and enjoying it. It was not main stage of the grand final and if anything such important games shouldn't being played at about 1 in the morning when everyone has had a chance to down about 10 pints during the day.

I want to give a shout out to all the massive keyboard warriors that claim that if they "had been there" this wouldn't have happened because they are hard arse mo fo's. You guys are fucking hilarious, IRL threats are only valid if you actually turn up to LAN events. If you are reading this and going "LOL I AM IN AMERICA SO I COULDNT GO" I hear GXL would be a good place to start.

Shout out to Ipz for trying to stir shit up by being a massive cunt and not knowing what he is on about, Enef for being a "nice guy" at LAN but preceding to shit talk on forums.

PS.

LAN was awesome, shame about the final.

Lots of love,

your favourite keyboard warrior.
