#183 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion
KohakuI guess it's kind of nice that they've said SOMETHING. Either way, it's easy to see why they are alienating 6s players, and Robin's grievances with 6v6 is something we've all been pretty aware of as a community. If they get more people interested in competitive and this benefits 6s in some way, great, but I admittedly have a hard time getting excited; I know that the day that competitive TF2 shifts from being a fast-paced, dynamic, teamwork-heavy twitch shooter into being about countering godawful unlocks in hopes of artificially shifting the metagame with more bloated shit will be the day I completely stop giving a shit and move onto fighting games or something. I just don't see any merit in highlander, even though valve and the pubbies might.

I think the whole point is to prevent the game from having godawful unlocks that you have to counter. It just gives more people a voice about which weapons have problems so that valve can fix them. I can't imagine this ever hurting 6s in any way. If they somehow manage to change one of the currently whitelisted items in a negative way, you could always just ban it in the league and play a bunch of these lobbies, banning it each time to show valve your disagreement.

Trekkiewhat i have taken away from this thread:

valve doesnt know the first thing about comp tf2

after years of ruining the game with broken items/updates, they have decided that the best format for comp tf2 which has remained largely unchanged for ~4 years is now too different from the game that pubbers play, and so the competitive format needs to adapt to the game, and not the other way around.

Please tell me where they said you need to change at all.

Nothing is changing for you. Your game is identical to the way it has always been.

The only thing that's changing is people who think your favorite gamemode is too complicated get the version of competitive TF2 that makes more sense to them, and when they get used to that they are far more likely to join 6s.

I don't see why anyone would complain about this. Nothing changes for you if you don't play the lobbies. You don't have to "adapt" to anything.

#15 Getting serious, wat do in TF2 General Discussion

It's rare for a high div team to just pick up a player with no exp. As painful as the first season in a low div is, ultimately it'll get you to high divs faster than waiting for a high div team to pick you up.

#183 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion

#181

The Day of Silence is not about LGBT rights. They're important too, but this is about kids feeling comfortable expressing themselves. The point is that lots of kids (especially LGBT) feel like no matter what they say, they'll be made fun of because of who they are. By silencing ourselves we're trying to show others what it's like for someone who has things to say to not say them. LGBT kids have things to say, but many of them don't think they can speak and have their opinion valued. It's about people not acting like gay=bad and welcoming everyone's (even anti-LGBT bigots) opinions because no one should feel so paranoid that they stay silent.

Just don't give words like "gay" or "faggot" a negative connotation. This includes everyone saying people shouldn't use the words: by whining about it every time it's said, you're repressing those who say them and further stigmatizing the words.

Gay is not an insult. Using as if it were an insult is offensive, and saying "any and all use of it is offensive" is self-fulfilling.

Even those of you who refuse to have your right to free speech taken away by us liberal socialist antichrists can recognize when a word that might offend could be replaced with a word that won't offend.

#135 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion
radiumIn my opinion, the National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is far more positive than the National Day of Silence. Those that are "kept silent" need to be able to talk. It's the first step that a gay man takes towards integration with the general human population.

Personally, I wish that there wasn't such a "wall" established between the gay community and community-at-large. "Separate but equal" has never worked in modern American history - and it's not going to work in regards to LGBT rights.

You talk about not wanting a wall. Why does a gay man have to take steps to "integrate" into the "general" population? WTF does that mean? You're implying that if you're LGBT you don't get to be a human unless you "come out." NCOD is also offensive to me. It should not be a big deal that they're LGBT, that's the whole point. Calling attention to the "announcement" of their sexuality makes it a big deal for them to be different and builds a wall between "humans" as you define them and anyone who doesn't understand why you seem to think you have a right to know everyone's sexuality.

The Day of Silence isn't about being quiet. It's about annoying everyone who wants to talk to you by not responding. It points out that there are tons of people out there who you would want to talk to just as much but who don't talk to you because they don't feel comfortable or accepted. My friends told me they were upset I wouldn't talk for one day, when really they should be upset that many people friendlier than me don't talk at all.

#128 National Day of Silence in TF2 General Discussion

I participated in the Day of Silence at my school. #127's point was definitely noticeable. There were people who couldn't figure out why I wasn't talking. I had a card with me that sort of explained it but a lot of people really didn't get it. Some thought it was some kind of competition to see who could stay quiet the longest. It was really frustrating to hear it so misinterpreted when I was completely unable to correct them because I wasn't speaking. And if I broke my silence to explain, they'd all freak out and make fun of me for not being able to stay silent. :|

I fully support it but it's not the best way to handle the issue IMO.

#36 Passive vs aggressive scout roles in TF2 General Discussion
HueyLewisThis game needs a passive-aggressive scout. He'd just bitch about his job and the game all the time. Actually, we probably have enough of those.

Passive-aggressive scout pulls out his boston basher, and doesn't use it, just to trick his medic into buffing him.

Passive-aggressive scout doesn't call picks: he calls players who have taken no damage. "Med is not lit. Med is still not lit. Med is still not lit. Pocket is not taking damage. Med is still not lit."

#18 Passive vs aggressive scout roles in TF2 General Discussion

It's good to know if you play better when you're passive or when you're aggressive, and it's good to not play generally aggressively when you're better at playing passively (and vice versa). It's not good to assume you can get away with always playing passively or always playing aggressively, and there's no reason to classify yourself as a type of scout, implying you could explain why you didn't chase down the lit medic by simply saying "I'm not the aggro scout."

Just play smart. Part of that is knowing what areas/styles you play smartest in, but another equally important part of that is knowing when to leave that behind and be where your team needs you.

Please don't blindly listen to bandwagons. Windows 8 is great for tablets and is faster than 7. It's absolutely a better choice than windows 7.
