kaceThe basis of algebra is solving for variables. Let's use a TF2 example: you're playing soldier and you come across another soldier with little particles flying out of him indicating that he is buffed somewhat. By luck, you fire 3 rockets and they do a total of 230 damage. At the same time he fires 4 rockets and knocks you down to 20HP. Now, you only have time to fire that one rocket before he switches to his shotgun and finishes you off. With your final rocket are you going to a) go for the direct and most likely miss or b)hit him with splash definitely?
Algebra precipitates a fundamentally logical approach to every situation.
I choose c, aim my rocket at his feet, maximizing my chances of doing direct damage, and if I miss I still do maximum splash.

I dunno I didn't like the lightning gun at first, but it's just sort of like a necessary evil in quake since it does require very good tracking to use correctly
