Also what's up with the demo files? I tried to watch a demo of a game where this happened to me and it downloaded as "<filename>.dem.gz" so I have no idea how to play it

Konceptkind of wish that a lot of the default settings weren't garbage to begin with
why is the default fov 70 and not 90?
why is the default interp set to what it is?
why is the default viewmodel fov so low?
why are damage numbers turned off by default?
why are the default damage numbers dark red?
and the list goes on...
I just know the interp settings were designed for the average connection back when TF2 was released. Now it's obsolete but the devs haven't bothered to change it, it's a simple as fuck fix but they just don't do it, like all the other things you listed.
