#77 MAJOR TF2 update for 2/29/16 (3/1/16 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

I hate the arrow healing noise. Not so much the sound itself but just that it exists.

Brimstonedude wtf sandblast legit carried your team

Just because someone does the best in stats doesn't mean they make a positive impact on the team overall. Also, cray wasn't necessarily implying that sandblast isn't a good scout. He only said that they're looking for one now.

#82 is suicide a joke? in Off Topic

A common sentiment in this thread is that saying offensive shit is okay because having thick skin should be required to use the internet. While it's totally true that it's an important goal for anyone to be able to manage their own state of mind, I don't think that means anyone is exempt from considering how what they say might affect others.

Additionally, a lot of people are saying that it's not cool to say those sorts of things around people who are actually suicidal or have had friends kill themselves or have been raped or whose dad died in 9/11, but how do you actually identify those people to know when to control yourself? Most won't tell you, but when they do, it's not very common for people to respond by backing off. I've seen that over and over again.

With that in mind, it seems like the only recourse someone has if they get hurt by something, if they can't just turn that off, is to leave the community, but that doesn't seem right to me. Why should people who have had hard lives be excluded from playing fun games and competing?

I know that I can't control anyone, and I'm lucky enough to be of pretty sound mind, but I still will ask people not to say certain things around me, and I try to show others the same courtesy. I don't think my life is any worse for avoiding saying obviously hurtful things. While I know it's not an obligation, I still choose to try to be less of a jerk.

#6 lfp medic in Recruitment (looking for players)

Radeon's scouting should improve a lot in the next couple of weeks. He definitely was very committed to improving when he roamed for me a couple of seasons back. He's a little excitable but overall a very fun dude to be around. Crypt has better dm than the dude he replaced, so that could help these guys out a lot. They could potentially go even like sail wants if they make the right pickup quickly. Next couple matches are key.

I haven't checked them out yet, but trinket.io has some free python lessons. Their mini IDE is kinda neat too.

I'm newish to CS and haven't branched out much beyond C++, LaTeX, and a bit of python, but what everyone tells me is that if I can get used to C++, everything else will seem easy... haha

froot40s for a full uber if building as fast as possible
usually takes around 50s though
8 seconds for full solo uber

Technically you can build it faster with arrows now, but very few people do it.

#59 movies or shows you think everyone should watch? in Music, Movies, TV
ProcreativeThe Waking Life

My GOD, yes. I have only ever met one other person who's seen Waking Life, and it's so good. It took me a couple of watches to understand what the ending meant, though.

  • Dr. Strangelove -- I don't even usually like Kubrick that much
  • The Triplets of Belleville -- an unusually animated movie with no dialogue and a ton of personality
  • Boyhood -- the one where they actually filmed over a period of 12 years with the same actors, aging
  • But I'm a Cheerleader -- girl gets sent to a "gay curing" program. lighthearted and a bit campy but also hella real
  • O Brother Where Art Thou? -- The Odyssey happens in the 30s, is a riot. incredible folk soundtrack

Edit: also, watch the original Cosmos with Carl Sagan. The first part of the first episode is a heck of a lot of staring at space, alternated with Sagan's face staring at space, but after that, it's so damned fascinating and so well put together. It really makes you feel awe for the universe and the brilliant minds who have been discovering it for millenia.
