#23 why is the quickie banned in etf2l? in TF2 General Discussion
Moermannatasha, jarate, sydney sleeper, cow mangler, scorch shot, bonk, milk, crit a cola, pretty boy pistol, detonator, soda popper, market gardner, whip, reserve shooter

Most of those are bad examples:

Jarate, Milk, Cola and Soda Popper all give clearly OP utility.

Whip completely changes the game with slow classes being sped up and way more bombing options available, debate can be had whether it would be positive or negative but would be huge regardless.

Bonk was always banned because it allowed player to get behind on the flank for free, and Reserve Shooter could deny bombers with mini crits. Both have been nerfed to an extent that they might not even be very strong atm, but I don't think their fundamental mechanics are popular.

Market Gardener, Cow Mangler and PBPP are all borderline. ETF2L has played with them extensively and eventually leaned towards ban because they are marginally OP.

So I think that leaves 4 that are perhaps 'banned because annoying'

Natascha, Sydney Sleeper, Scorch Shot and Detonator

There might be other justifications I'm not aware of, but they are all extremely annoying to play against.

Also, if an admin or anyone does have an archive of why all the weapons are banned it would be nice to have on a public whitelist

As an aside:

While I'm not always a huge fan of cheat-feed producing, that is some spectacular camera work and a nice example of what it can add.

#8 #savetf2 article in pcgamer in TF2 General Discussion

In Europe at least, casual is still completely infested with the hacking bots. When we've had an upswell in legit players after #SaveTF2 and now with ScreamFortress their effect is diluted, but they are definitely still around.

The PC Gamer article is a shame. The first 2/3rds are fairly well researched, but his conclusion doesn't match with my experience at all.

Setsul3 koth maps is the perfect american map rotation.
They only require counting to 3 instead of 5.

North Americans play koth as first to 4, so your joke is inaccurate on top of unfunny

#6 WARHURYEAH Appreciation Thread in TF2 General Discussion

I really admire WAR's casting. He's one of the few people who do light-hearted and cynical casting well, but on top of that when he did much more serious and professional casting at LAN he was phenomenal too.

It's a rare talent to be able to do both so adeptly.

#54 Thank You Letter to RGL in TF2 General Discussion
This rule was added sometime around august of this year.

This rule is bad, 4 years for a failed demo check to expire is an obviously stupid idea. This rule was apparently copied from ETF2L and was motivated for anticheat reasons, so this is a callout for ETF2L admins who think this is a good idea as well.

Make failed demo checks expire in a reasonable time.

I don't play RGL, but I don't understand why you think this timeframe is unreasonable. Does RGL have considerably more requests than ETF2L? Because I've had to provide POV demos about 3 times in ~5 years and over 150 officials. I think 4 years strikes a balance between not punishing genuine ancient history, without removing the consequences for not recording. What do you regard as a better timeframe?

It seems this recently banned player has failed to provide demos 3 times in under two years, which is clearly a severe lack of diligence on their part if not something malicious. Has this player actually provided a demo at all in that time, or are people defending someone who has just repeatedly failed to provide demos?

#8 spoon meta in TF2 General Discussion

I don't have a strong opinion on whether the Market Gardener is balanced or healthy, but

wonderofl pretty much every kill ive gotten with it couldve been prevented if the player i hit just played better, so its balanced.

is absolutely nonsense logic.

#45 May I ask talk about the current pandemic? in World Events
CollaideIt's insanely irrational to, based on a ramble about how china is a totalitarian state, develop trust issues with every single other government on the earth (and most distrusting toward scientifically proven countermeasures to covid?)

How many countries in the Western world have been trending towards more liberty in recent years and how many towards more government intervention, surveillance or authoritarianism? Not to mention those handful of 'private companies' all based within a few miles of each other who can vaporise your entire online presence on a whim should they choose.

It's extremely naive to suggest that just because we are currently in a better situation than China or the Soviet Union that our current governments would be unable or unwilling to claim greater authority if given the opportunity. Even if you agree with all the various pandemic restrictions over the last year, it should be somewhat concerning that so many governments have been able to remove such fundamental civil liberties from their citizens, in most cases with absolutely no mandate. It's a bit of a cliche at this point, but the Patriot Act is a good example of how a government can use a perceived crisis to gain more authority, and how subsequent administrations won't necessarily be inclined to relinquish it.

#26 included middle ban in TF2 General Discussion

Given some of the recent shorter bans for more egregious stuff, the 3 month ban seemed excessive to me at first.

However, if you blatantly throw an official, particularly to the extent it kills your team, you probably shouldn't be allowed to hop roster and play again the same season. Perhaps 2 months would suffice though.

Nothing against Middle, who is a pleasant gentleman.

#7 Medic tips pastebin feedback in TF2 General Discussion

The top tip I've been giving to medics I've mentored (newer comp players):

During an uber, once you only have ~50% of your uber remaining you need to think about your post-uber position, and move towards it.

#13 Gullywash thread in TF2 General Discussion

I don't know if it's widely known or people have discussed it before, but there is currently weird behaviour with being able to hold enemy spawn shutters open.

You can hold open last and 2nd, but not mid

It's not possible on the current version of other maps AFAICT (tested process, snake, metalworks)

e.g. metalworks

I can't imagine this behaviour is intentional, and found it quite jarring when I saw people use it in recent scrims. So I would be grateful if you could fix it in the new version. Thanks

#7 post your ideal whitelist in TF2 General Discussion

I notice that a lot of people who propose these far more restrictive whitelists often want the Cloak and Dagger banned, which seems very strange to me. Surely you don't want to make it even more difficult for the spy class to break stalemates, which is pretty much the only thing it is somewhat useful for.
