#12 Еrror when launching tf2 in Q/A Help
Firewell thats odd, i can only randomly troubleshoot from here...
  • turn off steam cloud so none of the changes might be overwritten by badly saved files.
  • make a backup folder on your desktop (or anywhere outside of the steam folders), move your "\cache ; \cfg ; \download ; \downloadlists ; \maps ; \replay ; \screenshots ; \workshop" folders from \tf\ to that backup folder (those are all the folders where i think files are being changed usually) and then verify game cache again (to redownload now missing files).
  • start tf2 using the -autoconfig launch option (and ideally remove all other launch options).
  • verify that steam actually looks for tf files in that directory (rightclick on tf2 in your steam library > properties > local files > browse local files; this should open the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2" dir).

if all this doesnt help i really have no idea anymore, there might be something wrong with your windows or hdd pointing at non existing directories that tf2 interprets as non valid. thats just a rough guess tho, theres probably an easier solution to it that i just dont know...

The autoconfig thing helped, the game finally works. Thank you so much!

epiMake sure there isn't a folder marked as hidden by following this Microsoft support article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files
Then, go back to your custom folder and see if it still appears empty.

While you're in the folder options window, also uncheck the box that hides file extensions for known types. It will make your life much easier.

Yeah, that option has always been turned on, but I have no hidden folders or files there.

FireCan you make a Screenshot of your \tf\custom folder?
Also Props for getting the embed done, already more advanced than 90% of the people here
FireaslI believe it needs to be /custom/mymapsorwhateveryouwannacallit/maps
If the folder exists in the /tf/ subdirectory it needs to be within a folder in custom.

So like,
/custom/myscipts/cfg
oh yes this is very correct, you dont want to have a direct subfolder of \tf\custom\ with the name of a folder that exists in \tf\ as a general rule.

like it says in the error message, look at the readme they have a nice explanation in it actually. (its in \tf\custom\readme.txt)

Thank you, here's the folder contents

#1 Еrror when launching tf2 in Q/A Help

Whenever I start tf2, I keep getting an error that I'll post a link to it's image bellow. I haven't done any changes in the folders of the game, a couple days before that I ran it with no problems. Today was the third time I tried to re install it and my friend suggested I ask here. We looked up the error, and couldn't find anything similar, but then again our google fu might not be that good regarding tf2 errors. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
