#6 RedTerror's DM Server - Stay MGE or switch to DM? in TF2 General Discussion
shlanerThe thing about dm servers is that it's hard to fill because everyone has the same idea. They would rather queue up to an-already-full server than join an empty one, which is reasonable.

Fog's tf.tv dm servers are usually 8/8 at peak times which would suggest that we could use more dm servers but extv has 3 DM servers that no one uses and they might be taking them down soon

eXtv took those servers down awhile ago, as far as I know. I used to go there almost daily and then 1 day the servers just weren't in my favorites anymore, asked around found the IP again for a couple of them and couldn't connect.

-edit-
Just tried both of them again, they're definitely down.

GiildyI don't see why you'd only want to advertise to all of Gold and Platinum. Advertise all the way down to mid of steel. There are tons of reliable teams at the bottom that would do wonders for padding league numbers.

I didn't say I wouldn't. I only stated what I knew about Gold/Platinum I've had multiple conversations with people if they've wanted another league with HL that they could play in. Most of them happen to be Gold/Platinum players. Mostly because I play with Gold/Platinum players.

In the Future though if CEVO - HL is going to exist, I will make sure as many people as possible that are even vaguely interested in playing Highlander will know.

#12 CEVO - HL in TF2 General Discussion
SteveCCevo doesn't even have a TF2 admin. There still isn't a prize for the first season. The client is really disruptive and unstable.Saint_personally idk how well Cevo will do with this. Their first season back (last season) they had way to many dead teams in 6's, and didn't put a good first impression on a lot of teams/people for returning to the league. I can't say it'll be the same for HL, but from my personal experience Cevo wasn't anything that had to much promise

If CEVO was to take HL on they would imo gain a lot of members, odds are the addition of HL would improve CEVO as a league with a wider user base adding to the incentive to improve. Also take note that if CEVO did take on HL, UGC might improve as a league as well knowing they're no longer the only source of HL.

As for the prizes part, UGC only has medals even if CEVO had 0 prizes, UGC would only be minimally better in that regard with CEVO having significantly more room to improve and be better or at the very least just as good with prizes.

Lastly I wouldn't full on expect CEVO to just make a new bracket in a couple weeks. I would assume if they were to make a HL bracket that it wouldn't be until Fall-Winter. Giving them more time to improve.

#5 CEVO - HL in TF2 General Discussion
pudding_cupthe entirety of gold and platinum would switch is HIGHLY optimistic.

"Most of what is current UGC Platinum and Gold would switch. "

I said most not the entirety

Maybe it is Highly Optimistic, but I'd certainly make sure every team in Gold/Platinum knew about it. Which I think would be enough to get a large chunk of them to sign up for CEVO. Now I didn't say they would leave UGC either, I assume a few teams would sign-up for both.

pudding_cupI guess my point is that even if lots of people don't particularly like UGC, replacing it isn't something that would be easy to do. So many factors to consider like medals, pay-to-play, etc. I just don't want people to get the idea that if a competitor to UGC suddenly existed that people would just automatically flock to it by the hundreds.

I assume cevo isn't going to be pay-to-play, medals might be a problem but I don't think medals will prevent a sizable number of sign-ups. So long as people know about it, and their was decent rules (or even a full copy of current UGC rules that could be changed over time) they would at least get a handful of teams.

You never know maybe people will flock to it like crazy, maybe it'll take 2-3 seasons to get most people, maybe CEVO-HL won't happen, but we have to try. I got a bit tired of seeing "Let's hope their's a CEVO-HL" and their hasn't been any request for it on their site.

I think if they were to make a full on bracket with reasonable unlocks rather than just vanilla they would get a lot more sign-ups. Especially if word got out that they were doing so.

I would put this on UGC to get A LOT of attention, but it would get deleted within 30 minutes anyway.

I probably did it wrong, but I created a thread on the forums about a Request for CEVO - HL please if you're interested in a CEVO-HL add to it (they won't make it if they think their isn't any interest for it). UGC can't be the only NA league.

-edit-

They added a Poll asking "Would you play in a FREE TF2 Highlander season?"

#19 Is it possible to innovate the HL meta? in TF2 General Discussion
SaxualContentclass roles seem pretty locked for all the reasons listed above, at least until the dm in ugc gets better. it just seems that a lot of classes are capable of things that no one wants to experiment with right now. like TMP mentioned once that ubering pyro to gain ground was extremely effective but no one would want to try that in an actual match where it matters, you know?

-ts- did this in almost every match in S8

#15 Is it possible to innovate the HL meta? in TF2 General Discussion

Ok so I've read this, and several things

-Heavy as a roamer wouldn't work. Why? Because the heavy HAS to play defensively without med heals, the heavy isn't a pick class and it's very difficult for the heavy to be a pick class. While the solly can.

-Demo as a roamer wouldn't work. Why? Because they can't do close range damage consistently, and have a large difficulty defending themselves.

Thus the Demo and Heavy are really well locked into being pocket combo classes 99% of the time.

Now the Highlander Meta can easily change it with most of the other classes.

-Pyro: a lot of people Haven't quite realized that the pyro isn't just for spy checking, stopping solly bombs, and occasional roaming. Though I think the pyro should do all those things, but I think the primary importance for pyro is to give your team ground combine the high dps and airblast ability and pyro is possibly the most effective push class in medium-short ranges. Add to it damage support from a demo and heavy and the cleanup of a good scout you have a recipe of forcing the enemy out of an area and possibly wiping them in the process. Though the Heavy is going to have to be more aware of the enemy solly and spy in this process. As far as I know -ts- in S8 was and has since been the only team that did this consistently.

-Soldier: Their main role is to watch the flanks, and occasionally get picks. Though some soldiers have been taking a newer approach to this. They've been using the Soldier as a distraction class. Not a class to get picks or really watch flanks, but as a tool of completely annoying and distracting the enemy team, dividing their attention and possibly pulling off 1-3 people from the frontline. Specifically vhalin was really good at doing this last season.

-Spy: As sneakypolarbear pointed out Evan adapted the meta of spy. Evan became a distraction class, rather than a pick class. Though he did get a lot of picks from his revolver, most of what he did was distract the enemy and didn't die in the process. In which his team made plays off of. Rather than the normal spy gets 1-2 key picks, team pushes into area.

-Scout: Pretty much what I said with the pyro, a pyro + scout are really good at taking forward ground and forcing the enemy out of the area. The scout can also utilize unlocks like Bonk to be a distraction or intel gatherer.

As far the other classes Engi MIGHT be able to change the meta with the rescue ranger, but I am unsure how. Sniper idk how they can do much other than get picks and throw piss. Medic meta changes are highly unlikely and would probably be really ineffective anyway.
