Shout out to the poor projection screen at the venue.

Shout out to dubs/abby and plum the photographers of the lan without them the B-Rolls of the venue wouldn’t be as good as it was.

Shout out to my fireside crew from siyo to antlers to underscore to lacy to Connie and louster, they worked hella hard to made it as enjoyable even through the rough times at the venue and matches.

Shout out to everyone that came to the event, hope to see you guys again, everyone was so nice and fun to talk to, just nerding out about TF2 all day was so much fun

mastercomsI used to have a similar opinion but then I realized that the availability of certain classes in TF2 has no bearing on what should be available in 6s. It's just as much of an interesting game even pretending TF2 only has those 4 classes. Would the game appeal to more people if it had the class they main more? Maybe, but that's not the game that's been developed here. This is an entirely unique experience that happens to be hosted within TF2, focused on fast paced, arena DM and playing around uber. That's more than a sufficient meta-game to stand on its own. And I'd wish at this point we'd focus on streamlining the experience, since I think it would bring up more interesting decisions within play. Give up on bridging the gap, 6v6 NR is just not the same game as 6s, and if people want 6v6 NR, they can host their own formats.

Nah I definitely agree, I may be an advocate for full time offclassing but it’s mostly for making a team around one class, that’s it. I find it the most silly to try and say “all classes should be viable.” Because you would essentially make scout with a flamethrower or scout tank with a minigun it’s just not what the classes are, if you can make offclassing work along with a weapon you like? Cool, awesome! But leave the specialists how they are and keep them unique which is what their strengths are, defense and pick classes. That or using them on KOTH which works as well I guess.

So far from what I am gathering from this thread is:

- some want a tutorial for the basics of 6s to help people ease into the scene.

- a lot of balances for the generalists weapons but not a lot in favor for changing the specialists, keeping them specialists. (Besides allowing to air-strafe from pyro’s airblasts)

- a functioning anti cheat of some kind.

- Your med percentage on top of the statues board.

- some form of matchmaking systems or at least pug systems/ casual servers

- LOTS of QoL features and fixes.

Anything I’m missing? To try and simplify our thoughts about this promod idea.

enthrowplumI think this is already a good enough reason for many people to download an additional mod (assuming the anti-cheat is of sufficient quality). But maybe I'm being too optimistic?
I definitely think its a good enough reason! The issue is the enormous dev effort.

You're stripping VAC from the equation and your solution needs to be much, much better before its worth it for leagues to even think about switching. There are people in the community with the skills and knowledge to do this pretty well it would just be a major lift. In fact my understanding is that people like steph have done some really cool anticheat work on similar standalone TF2 mods (not sure which one off the top of my head, but I've heard good things). The tech is possible, its just a wild amount of ongoing effort by people with very specialized knowledge and limited time. This is especially the case as leagues/ pugs switch over and the cat and mouse game with the cheat devs ramps up.

What about megascatterbomb and his development through demos in matches? If not, why?

Spe0I think its time for the competitive community (more specifically 6s) to take their blinders off and finally admit that the reason why there is a "bridge" to be built or that there is a gap between the casual and competitive community is entirely because the casual community is filled with people who main or primarily play pyro/spy/sniper and would like to play their main classes in 6s full time but are fundamentally barred from doing so.

My wish for a promod (if anyone wants to build a promod) is to take this reality into fact and aim to "generalise" the "specialist" classes so people who want to play these classes full time can do so without ruining the aspects of 6s that makes it so great. There is a fine line here, as the promod should aim to both keep the identity of these classes intact and also make them work in the core 6s gameplay loop without slowing or "hero shooter"-fying (i.e damage sponge galore) the game.

A 6s gamemode where 9 out of 9 classes can be ran full time opens the door for finally unifying the HL and 6s community as there would no need for a gamemode that specifically caters to offclass mains, adding in tons of players who are invested in the same game and the same scene. This would bring more life to this dying game that any "tutorial " or "QoL" change can ever hope to bring

It would definitely be tough. Would probably have to make new weapons for 4 of the 5 offclasses maybe less (cause sniper is already crazy as it is without movement) and if so what for what class to make them viable without making them OP or annoying which some by nature is already annoying?

i'm gonna be honest, i see lots of wishing for a tutorial but it never needed TF2 SDK to become a reality, especially now that vscript exists. someone has to put in the work :shrug: also it's not the educational silver bullet you think it is

It’ll be honestly way better than having to shift through forums, YouTube videos, discord servers, websites that you probably didn’t know existed till looking up things, what have you just to figure out what the hell does this specific term means, hell we can’t even agree on certain callouts or terms like gullywash’s elbow or is it banana?? You have to do homework on this gamemode just to feel like you are contributing in some way let alone know what the hell is going on. Which is fine, but be consistent, we are definitely not consistent in many ways, different regions with different rulesets and whitelists, different callouts for the same spots on the same maps, hell grape juice had to make a video about terminology’s of comp tf2 because how poorly people used them.

It’ll at least be something is what I’m trying to say for the community to direct the new players to to ease them in more easier.

you are right tho we have to put the work in or even could’ve done it awhile back when VScript came out which really got on my nerves when it came out barely anyone cared about it in this community, at least from what I saw.

just saw the video and yeah that's rough for how long and complicated it is, how can we not do that if we want to make a short but effective tutorial if we decide to do that?

all I can think of is give the essentials and make the complicated stuff more optional to read or learn.

I would say not mention a lot of the terms that higher level players use and let them learn that on their own or have it as an optional thing for them to read, same with some callouts with that website that shows all the callouts for every map, but give universal callouts like choke, last, 2nd, mid, etc.

S TF2 Guides can be a good example to go by
