Maybe not the right thread, but since I built my new PC I haven't been entirely satisfied with the audio.
I wired up the case's front audio connectors to the HD Audio (instead of AC97).
If I push my 3.5mm headphone jack in all the way it sounds super echoey, but if I pull it out halfway it sounds "normal"...

Edit: same thing happens if I connect it to the headphone jack on the back too :D

Ingame I feel like there is a noticeable difference compared to the old Creative XFi card I had used for over a decade, it is much harder to pinpoint where sounds are coming from and there is excessive bass.

Should I use AC97 instead of HD Audio? Have I wired something up wrong?

Do I need an amp now? (The old Creative card had a front panel where I plugged shit in)

I could have saved £50 with an i7-6700K and £45 on a cheaper PSU, but sometimes I just like to ball out.

Bought the PSU on Amazon and everything else from Aria-PC.

I was very close to just buying the PSU and waiting to see what happens with Zen, but questionable decision making has characterised my life and I don't intended to stop now. Thanks again :D

I'm ready to nut. My old PC is dying. Gonna gut it, keeping only the 250GB Samsung 840 PRO and the GTX 960 (which I might upgrade in a month or two to something stupid like a GTX1080)

Here are the parts I picked out, gonna pull the trigger in the next 24 hours as my old PC keeps intermittently locking and has had a good run at 6 years.

Honestly I never fully understood how the whole Crack Clan thing turned to shit. It was a great project to be part of and we were really trying to elevate peoples expectations of what a prem team could do for the scene.

My recollections align pretty much with what dox says, but I wasn't involved in the subsequent drama as I had stepped back from the team for other reasons. My understanding was that since I had left there was a breakdown in communication with dox feeling out of loop and ipz unable to reach dox in the critical lead up to LAN.

I feel like it was all a big misunderstanding in that each party's expectations were not well communicated. For the record, dox did buy or refund me a ticket to that summer i-Series, but I never went.

I think it it weren't for that bad blood the rest of the team would look back on that time as fondly as I do. Sure, we did most of the work ourselves (way more than any other team), but we were under no illusions - we were literally trying to establish a viable self sustaining sponsorship / business model for top TF2 teams because there is no money in the game.

I still feel that dox was a genuinely cool guy to work with (what other org owners are DJing for their teams on Mumble?!), but again I wasn't there for the drama.
