Langealfunksodo you need more donations lange?
No amount of money can fix this right now. I still have the money from the donations I received before I moved. As soon as that money can be spent on better internet, it will be.

there aren't any other options around here really to be honest, I'd try to get charter to do something about the node if possible because the only options are really charter and att. Att will give you better ping but their speeds blow. I think charter switched ceo's or something a while ago because their online support division on broadband reports got the axe, so it's probably gonna be harder for you to get in contact with someone who can do something about it sadly.

timesthelegallimitI do run dsl wirelessly to my laptop. So my question is: would hardwiring to the dsl box make a significant difference? It'd be a big pain and other people live here too. But I'd consider if there'd be a big change.

ping your router/modem

Charter may be shit, but I believe most of my problems stem from my particular Charter line being shared by all 68 residents of my apartment complex on hardware that cannot handle the demands.

ATT is not an option because they do not offer their fastest package here, which is the only one fast enough to stream on. You're right though, their costs are extortionate for the speeds delivered.

Lange - did you have a tech come out and check the line that's running into your apartment? I had a similar problem that kinda just happened all of a sudden when i lived my my old apartment complex. I requested a tech come out after 30 minutes of phone troubleshooting (i.e. reboot your pc and router).

The tech came out and traced the line from the main box all the way to the port in my utility room - he found the copper connection that it rode in on was loose and replaced it, bingo problem solved. Worth a shot if nothing else, and it should be free as tech support is included in just about in every contract.

The IT guy for this building and I talk on a semi-regular basis. He's the reason I was able to stream *at all* for the first few weeks I lived here. He's not sure why the internet is getting worse, but the whole building is being affected. I've submitted complaints to every possible person/organization who will take them, all I can do is wait and complain some more.

yeah sharing a connection with 50+ people just leads to sooo much jitter. wish you the best getting your net to work like it did :(

RenhetYou think YOU have it bad?

I lived with those kinds of speeds(on cable) for years. having shit ping prevents you from any kind of srs gaming which is much more annoying tbh

~7 years ago when i started playing cs I was with Bell and it was the worst experience of my life. Of course, back then I didn't really know shit about ping or netcode or anything so I didn't worry about it too much.
Let's just say that I thought pinging 150 to chicago was really fucking good.
60kb/s max download speed son.

#30: Using ethernet instead of wifi is always better by at least some degree, because you don't have the same control over radio that you get with a wire.

I had really shitty internet for the past several years with no other options available in my area; however recently my stepdad got in contact with a friend who works for AT&T and now we're having uverse installed this weekend after said friend called in a few favors.

So my advice would be to ask friends or friends of friends if they can hook you up with dem megabits

I thought u-verse sucked ass.

U-Verse uses a fiber optic network which makes it really reliable. The only reason their speeds are disappointing (their upload speeds in particular) is because your connection runs through phone lines (or something I don't really remember) before it actually reaches your neighborhood's U-Verse node and fiber network. Otherwise, U-Verse would be just as expensive as FIOS.
