Games and software not utilising processor

Recently on my laptop games and cpu-software have been running particularly slowly for no apparent reason. Despite this, task manager shows my cpu usage at incredibly low values (less than 5% for TF2 in a pub, giving me input lag and <20 fps in firefights), so I'm not sure what is going wrong. I have set the power mode in the windows power settings to 'High Performance,' and made sure that the settings which constitute it are properly set. This laptop certainly isn't a gaming machine (no GPU), but it shouldn't be doing this, especially since it wasn't before. I noticed that this started happening after not using my laptop for a while after a backpacking trip, but I'm not sure how that would cause it-- nor do i remember doing anything particularly significant to it. Has anyone else had this issue? How can I fix this?

if you took it on a trip i suggest opening it up and cleaning it and also making sure everything is still properly connected

gibuswhat temp is it running at

honestly much cooler than it is usually runs at.

sendif you took it on a trip i suggest opening it up and cleaning it and also making sure everything is still properly connected

what kinds of things might be disconnected? i did take it with me on a trip recently, though not a backpacking one lol. I can't quite remember, but it may have started happening during/after the trip, so that might be it.

Have you checked the basic stuff like what clock speed the CPU running at, what the power settings are, what the temps are, etc.

BurningSmileHave you checked the basic stuff like what clock speed the CPU running at, what the power settings are, what the temps are, etc.

the max speed is currently at 2.50 ghz according to task manager, but the current speed is closer to 3.5 because of the boost. did the other two.

in the power settings the max and min clock speeds were set to 0mhz, so i set them to 3.5gz, if that matters (it didnt make a difference from what i could see)

maybe something became loose and fell out of it's socket or maybe there's a lot of dust inside, it's worth checking
