Always found TF2Pickup more enjoyable than pugchamp.
Are there any plans for it making a return?

Kuferl, Kampfkeks and Wiethoofd were the main devs. The rest were admins/mods. And since the money from the donations ended we had to stop the servers. I think kampfkeks is still coding/rewriting some parts of it but unfortunately there is no eta for launching it back.

The thing is that pickup was more like mixchamp but with a few small differences, such as medics could pick one person to be on their team. The real issue is player base, even if pickup came back pickup lost a lot of people to pugchamp when that came out and I doubt a lot of people would go back. So pickup could come back and really struggle, however I really would like pickup to come back as it was an actual good HL pickup site as well as a good 6s one.

Problem I find with Pugchamp and pick/banning captains is if you're an unknown it's hard for you to get picked and play.

I don't know what happened to the concept of having a more Open pug system and a more exclusive one for higher level players but I feel this would benefit the scene mor.

People stopped playing tf2pickup. I only shut it down once there were several months of no pickups played.

Wasn't the most stable, but don't think it was thaaaat bad. In theory i can always host it again if there is a need for it

Well if you brought it back I would use the site. I made a post in another thread that is relevant to this one which explains why we need a viable alternative to captain picking websites like pugchamp.

Yes, I'm still writing the new site for pickup, though I just had my A-levels and I'm going to be on vacation soon so I don't know when it will be in a stable format.

Some Plans that I have in mind:

  • Make a proper chat system with emoticons and mentions
  • Rework the donation system, so you can buy announcers separately and support more paying methods
  • Use serveme.tf servers (Already worked in the last beta site and worked really well)
  • Rework the queueing system. Allow more players to join a class than needed, similar to pugchamp. When there are enough players to create a game, a ready up phase will start and it will use the longest joined players for the next game.

If you have any suggestions feel free to write them here. When I have an update on some visuals I will post some pictures here.
