weird gfx problem

problem: when I'm inside a building, or somewhere else that has like, induced lighting (as opposed to ambient, like when you're running around outside), my game gives me a rapid flickering between brightness levels, and it's awfully jarring. standing still doesn't help.

what I've done so far: defragged, verified cache, etc.

what I'm using: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M, MaxFrames

interesting sidenote: when I tried to fraps it so that I could make a gif of what was happening, it stopped altogether. no flickering, no nothing. maybe I should just use a regular config that gets me less fps? is that what's wrong? I've never had a problem with using maxframes with the setup I have before, so maybe I missed some update while I was gone that messed with things.

any advice is appreciated; comparison screenshots can be provided to the best of my ability.

Its your drivers, you have to uninstall your old drivers before you install the latest one

nah, not a driver problem

just did a clean install of the latest nvidia drivers and I'm still getting the flickering.

I remember hearing something about newer Nvidia drivers making TF2's textures screw up.

When it comes to drivers, updating them can cause more problems. Although I can't say for sure it's because of drivers, updating drivers will not always fix things.

Nvidia cards have a problem if you install the new drivers. You can roll back to the 306.97 drivers (I'm using those) and it will be solved.

just moved to dx9frames and still get an average of 150+ in pubs with no flickering

sherman_gluckyou updated to the new nvidia driver, either roll back or play -dxlevel 90

thanks to this dude from the other flickering thread

Yeah, the new nvidia drivers cause flickering in dx8, so either use old drivers or use dx9.
