I used one called PCSX2 which was pretty good. You could save and everything.

Just buy a new PS2 for $20 at a thrift store

ya pcsx2 is the only decent ps2 emulator. emulating ps2 games has been kinda shit in my experience like most games dont work or theres graphical glitches and shit

Emulating anything in PS2/GC era is kind of a waste of time unless it's like melee or something you know is going to work. There are too many issues to make playing games enjoyable, I don't really want to have to worry about fucking with emulator settings or waiting for game breaking bugs. A lot of games will "work" and there's pretty good wiki/documentation for PCSX2 but most of my experiences have been bad.

Anything before that though is a pretty safe bet, like SNES/N64/GBA/PSX etc.
