I'd disagree and say that it IS about the fighting, but in the way that a martial arts movie is about the fight scenes. The fact that it's not "real" doesn't mean that watching the intricate choreography isn't enjoyable, especially since the good wrestlers can tell excellent stories in the ring.

I love MMA, but you've got to admit that while awesome, MMA can be a bit of a letdown as a spectator experience. We've had matches that lasted seconds, which isn't that great of a spectator experience. Wrestling, while mostly unrealistic, doesn't have that problem (usually!) because it's set out from the start and as such a story can be told.

Admittedly the WWE (bar NXT) is pretty bad at the actual storytelling in the match department, but it's the principle.

I guess you'd also rather stare outside your window all day instead of watching a movie, right?

Growing up it had to be Ahmed Johnson. He was this giant buff black guy that for some reason wore a shit ton of padding. Apparently he wore all that because he thought he was a luchador, dude would do some really stupid high spots and landed on his head half the time, throwing people on theirs the other half. On the last Observer Radio they talked about how Ron Simmons separated his shoulder because of how fast he jumped out of the ring when Ahmed came in with a 2x4. Very unsafe, but damned entertaining.

Right now it's Shinske Nakamura, King of Strong Style. Dude just oozes charisma.

Ax and Smash the tag-team Demolition was my shit back in the day when wrestling was awesome. I watched them religiously.

My favorite of all time was hands down Mr. Perfect. Can't tell you how many attempts of the "perfect plex" I have made in my life.
