because there are probably lots of people that bandwagon, so giving yourself a plus frag may artificially inflate the "frag value" of your post

If I +frag myself, I usually get way more overall +frags than if I don't do anything, and I get -fragged a lot more if I -frag myself.

I am not sure, but aren't the stars next to your name related to the amount of +frags you have received in all of your posts? If so people could make a lot of neutral posts just to get more karma. The the forum becomes a popularity contest
