Picking Up Your Mouse (Scout)

Hey all,

I'm one of those newbies who has begun the quest of finding his perfect mouse sensitivity. I am currently using a Logitech G400S mouse and a PureTrak Stealth mousepad to play TF2. My sensitivity is at about 20 cm/360 degrees (which I think is about average?). I main scout, and even after these changes to my sensitivity, mouse, and larger pad, I still find that I need to pick up my mouse to recenter, especially when I need to do a 180 towards my left direction and then shoot from there. Often times, my arm will be in a very cramped and awkward position (very close to my keyboard if not banging it) unless I pick up the mouse to recenter. Even when doing a 180 towards my right and shooting from there, it feels awkward as heck with my arm so far from my body. Anyone else experience this at some point and have any tips?

Thanks so much!

honestly you just got keep playing and find your own sense of "how do I want to play", as long as it works, hitting your shots and its comfortable for you then just keep doing what you are doing.

I have 20in/360 (50cm) on scout and I'm also forced to recenter my mouse ever since it gets away to the edge of my mousepad. It does feel weird to me as well, but I already got used to it - been using that sens for a while, so it's not a big problem for me. For how long you've been using that setup and sens? Have you been trying to change your grip to the mouse? Solution could be either changing your sens or changing the way you hold your mouse.

okay cool, i've been using it about 1.5 weeks now. i think i like the sens, but can you elaborate on what you mean by the grip on the mouse? i think i hold it somewhat loosely, with my fingers, my whole palm not entirely on the mouse.

oh hey enigma, big fan! so picking up to recenter constantly is a normal behavior?

mistabufordoh hey enigma, big fan! so recentering constantly is a normal behavior?

I'd argue it's even optimal since you won't need to be familiar with as large a range of motion as you would need to be otherwise.

I feel that there's a "sweet spot" on my mousepad and I usually can't aim if my mouse is is just in a random spot, I like to think it's a kind of a way that I refresh my aim in a few seconds but who knows!

it can help a lot if the shape of your mouse syncs with your preferred method of gripping your mouse.
i perform better with something small like the WMO or FK2 (relative to a G400 or Deathadder) because i have a better grip with those mice. lifting up my mouse is a nuisance for me with bigger/ergonomic shapes and my performance suffers because of it.

20cm/360 sounds faster than average tbh.

Yeah re-centering is normal. Zowie mice have a super low lift off distance which is one of the reasons I like them, makes centering much easier.
