IE will stop sucking when I can stop introducing special code in my html and javascript to deal with IE not supporting the standards.

IE10 certainly is an upgrade over past IE's. But the thing that annoys me the most is that there is no way to target IE for code in IE10 because they discontinued conditional comments.

I don't understand all the hate for IE.

Yeah, in the past it had compliance issues with some HTML and CSS code, but now it's pretty much equivalent (for the most part) with other browsers. The speed differences between the browsers are also maybe a fraction of a second in load times. I doubt that's a huge factor.

But for the most part, I don't understand all these browser hipsters that hate on IE for no reason. The people who refuse to use IE no matter what. Most of them spend all their time on Facebook/YouTube, so it's not like they are gaining some magical advantage by using other browsers.

And the people who will not use IE even when on a temporary computer piss me off. If you're going to use a computer at the library, or at school, or whatever, you don't need to fucking download another browser just so you can surf the internet for 5 minutes. I've seen people get into arguments with teachers/librarians over installing other browsers. The teachers ask them not to install shit on the computers, and these dipshits do it anyway because GOD FORBID YOU MIGHT HAVE TO USE IE FOR A FEW MINUTES.

I can understand wanting to have your usual plugins, cookies, etc., so you can easily be automatically signed into whatever website you normally visit, but for the love of god, don't do that shit on a public computer. If you want that experience get a flash drive and install PortableApps and your favorite browser.

tl;dr: Get over it. It works fine for 90% of the shit that you do, and hating on it just makes you look like a douche who is trying to look like he knows computers.

Well, past experiences have made people very touchy when it comes to using a browser, and let's face it, back then there were better ones out there. That is a tendency that it's hard to stop, since most people prefer the usual stuff rather than change it (humans are lazy, you know).

But seriously, IE's improves are too late. Just like how google took the search market, firefox/chrome took the browser market. There are many more addons for firefox and chrome I'm betting, and people are used to those functioning browsers. Why switch?

You'd switch browsers because the one you're switching to is better. If you recall, the dominant web browser 10 years ago was Netscape Navigator. These newer browsers make significant improvements, and people will then want to switch.

I think it's amiable for IE to try to improve and get better. But at the same time, people have such negative associations with the name they might be better off changing it to something else.

If I use a computer that I'm going to use for a while, I install Chrome.

If I'm just using it for a few minutes, then I'll use what's installed (Chrome first, then Firefox, then IE).

It seems like that only applies to HTML5.

Does it have any additional features that make it worth using over other browsers? Admittedly I didn't put much effort into researching it but all I keep seeing is that it might be slightly faster than FF/Chrome. I'm not dissatisfied with Chrome's speed, and unless IE has comparable addons and the ability to log in anywhere and instantly have all my bookmarks/passwords/addons, then I'm really not interested in switching.

The reason for the hate is not their upgraded versions, but the old versions of it 5+ years ago that people don't even want to touch it anymore.

I don't wanna write an essay like you did but there's a lot of reasons why people hate on IE. That browser has been sluggish/slow, behind all the alternative browsers for 6-7 years. The alternatives are mostly all open source. IE has forced their standards / had bad common standard support for so long. Microsoft pre-installing only their browser on their monopolistic platform. Etc... I could go on and on but I will stop there. So, you, saying you can't understand the hate just proves you are ignorant or stupid.

The hate that IE gets from the average computer user who doesn't know their motherboard from a hole in the ground is what I don't understand. Other than the interface, most of them wouldn't notice the difference between how the browsers function at all. They just hate on it because it's what the "smart" people are doing so they just jump on the bandwagon without knowing the reasons.

I think you're confusing the average computer user with the average gamer/channer/computer-semi-competent male. The average person I know really doesn't hate on, they just like chrome or firefox or safari (mac users) since IE wasn't a good choice at the time. Also, the legacy of hate is pretty justified considering how long it took them to get a browser that could compete with firefox or IE.

When you get so far behind after making a statement in the IT world. You are bound to get hate. They said IE was secure, there were exploits and other causes that could potentially cost companies millions in losses from security issues. They said it was faster, it was plummeting behind any other browser and crashed most of the time. They said it was better, it is just now catching up to what everyone else already has.

IE plain and simple just was never what it was said to be and catching up has been a painful process. "Progress" fits the browser perfectly because they are far from the top.

p.s. on another note windows 8 is doing their typical run off. In the past 2 weeks over 30+ exploits which were potential game breakers for any business as in you lose all your shit over a simple bug to joe nilly. Progress.

People trust experts. And they need to. A complete amateur may not be able to pick up on the differences between a Telecaster with rosewood frets and a Gibson Les Paul, but that doesn't mean there are no differences. When you go to buy a guitar, you should talk to people who know guitars. When you choose an internet browser, you should talk to people who know computers.
