So, there used to be some betas available for tf2 which were mainly used for recording or demo viewing purposes since they fixed a lot of issues with viewmodels and such, it looked like this

Now I tried to use it again and all I have is this

Did they disable or remove them recently?

Yes the betas disappeared.

The only interesting one is the pre_whn2013_demo. It was a build of the game that was avaible to playback older demos that had been broken in newer updates.

There are at least 2 possibilities why valve removed this beta

1. Valve fixed demos. Not sure about this one as I do not have old demos to test this.

2. Valve did it to make item schema exploits more difficult.

In the current version of the game tf2 wont start unless it has a valid items_game.txt. The file is signed to confirm that it is correct.

In previous version you could simply edit the local copy of items_game.txt and try out all kinds of exploits. Stuff like using giftapults as keys.

If you were to use the old version of tf2 it is still possible to use a custom items_game.txt and try to find exploits. It is not possible to play online with them as you will have a version mismatch if you try to connect to a server.

It not impossible to use a custom items_game.tx. However looking for exploits using a custom items_game.txt nowadays it has gotten significantly more difficult so a lot less people are trying and a lot less exploits will be found in the future because of this.

They didn't, hence the question, I have some old demos laying around and I wanted to do something with them but plenty have viewmodel bugs. Which the betas fixed.

^ It seems like only pre-Halloween 2013 demos are affected, based on the name. So, i49 demos can't be played back, while i52 demos should be able to unless Valve broke demos since then.

i'd sincerely hope you're wrong because item_schema stuff was both fun to play around with and completely harmless if you couldn't connect to a server. From a gameplay perspective the only big bug that was noticeable was the targe control thing, but they probably broke it for trading stuff.

idk its not like it was useful, but it was kinda fun to play with

Hello. Even i'm having problems regarding the making of the videos, as Valve after this update of halloween they stopped supporting the pre-halloween beta of 2013. I've tried sending emails, but i didn't get any answers, and i'm really desperate of this because all of my videos i'm working on are half done and i can't continue them

Bumping this because I'm not sure whether they were fixed or my demo isn't old enough, but I was able to watch a demo from 9/12/2012, which I don't remember being able to watch when it was broken originally.

The oldest demo I have handy is from December 2011, and it worked fine.
