hooky[...] we won't be able to stream any sort of music now, assuming they use the ContentID/copyright reporting system (and they will likely have to, because DMCA, RIAA, MPAA, etc). The ContentID system really won't work with livestreaming though.
All Twitch needs to do is save vods and then run ContentID on them.

Sorry if I missed something here, but can someone explain to me what exactly makes Twitch worth $1 billion? Sure it probably gets in the range of a couple million viewers most days, but a billion seems a bit excessive.

Because they stream videos.
While their assets are not worth 1b, Google found them very promising and paid the price they wanted.

A lot of people seem unhappy about this.
My only real comment is that hopefully Google will optimize the Twitch software; watching VODs on playback is always a chore due to how much resources and such the Twitch software uses.

freakinBack in May when he made the video it was an if. I believe it is definite now.
When I say if, it doesn't necessarily refer to the deal that Twitch and Youtube have made. If refers to if the government allows the merger to happen. With a vague not-yet-officially confirmed statement like "a deal has been signed" this sounds more like the finishing touches of a deal between Youtube and Twitch and not a deal that has the stamps of approval from all the antitrust and other regulatory agencies/departments/divisions/committees/whatever it needs to be approved.
However by the way Comcast/TWC merger has gone so far, I am pretty sure Google can find a way to make this work.
Edit: Words are difficult.
