today i logged into tf2 and my hitsound was broken

i checked to make sure it was in the right place (the one i put it in and was working last night) http://puu.sh/32xUe.jpg

i use a custom one (quake hitsound)

i enabled "use hitsounds" in the advanced options of tf2 as well
also validated files in steam

the game doesn't play any sort of hitsound. it shows damage numbers but plays no hitsound. all other sounds work.. menu.. voices. etc

if anyone could help that would be nice

Use a different hitsound to see if that works, and if it does than something is just wrong with your hitsound.

You say that it sounds horrible, but ironically, I think that somehow you enabled "high quality" audio. High quality audio has a lot of reverb and echo and I agree that it is horrible. In tf2, go to options - audio, and if you have quality audio enabled, changed it to low and see if that fixes it.

I meant to post that in a completely different thread. I'm an idiot.
