blinKLets look at nNn. Before they picked up powah the previous season in IM they were the 2nd, maybe 3rd best team. Then with powah they win IM and go invite. Half way through their semi successful invite stint powah leaves because he can't go to LAN. Why play in the first place? Now he's going to join kappows team in IM and give them a better chance to make invite as well and do the same exact thing all over again. Sorry but to me that's just stupid. Kappow had a solid team without powah they should've left the roster as it was. He's basically a temporary high level merc sand bagging lower divisions.

its not like he had some sort of hidden agenda, he couldn't get a visa and it was pretty upset about it. you seem kind of hung up on him joining kapows team, where as you have 5 ex invite players on your roster, backup or starting they're still there regardless and im sure they wouldn't have a problem playing a match or two

The IM playoffs are going to be really intense and I think that's why blinky doesn't like it. Xensity has been wanting to be in invite for a few seasons now and knowing how strong Wow Wow Kapoww are they might have to rely on the poll again to get that invite placement.

They'll probably get it if Arc doesn't make an ass out of himself again.

I always wanted to go to LAN, too bad it didn't happen this season.
about me in IM again, they are cool dudes and frio didn't want to play the ashville week, so I joined them as backup. I'm not starting for them. also I don't think I was the factor that made Mad Men win IM last season.

In the AU scene, there have been a lot of low "division 1" (not necessarily invite level, but it's our top skill division so whatever) teams that have stuck it out for quite a while.

Bear in mind we're a different scene and as such skill divisions etc will be different to NA (no shit).

vivid reprisal (a team comprised mostly of admins, funnily enough I guess) have been together for 2, nearly 3 years and have worked their way from Division 3 (mid open I guess) all the way to a low/mid division 1 team (so low-mid IM I guess). For the most part, there have been a few members that have been there consistently season to season, but there are some new faces. The reason why some members left in the past was not necessarily the teams performance, but for personal reasons for the most part (and from my knowledge, occurred at the END of the season).

Sure in Australia we don't have the "structure" of ESEA, let alone a LAN as prestigious as ESEA for Division 1 finals etc, but as Ruwin said: people that have gotten into the top skill division through hard work and mettle have been proud of their accomplishment and quite a few of the teams have stuck it out for continuous seasons despite their "sub-par" performance. I'm not trying to compare the skill of Division 1 to Invite because for the most part the skill differences are pretty obvious. What I am trying to do is basically further reiterate Ruwin's previous posts.

I think people just need to stop being bitches at their teams performance and stick it out. If you stick it out with your team through thick and thin, THAT is where you start seeing yourselves becoming better.

TL;DR - don't leave your team (especially mid-season for the matter) unless it is actually important. Stop being a bitch.

On another note - Ozfortress has the ongoing "Ozfortress League" where teams that want to get into OWL (the main league) must prove their worth (ie, not disband in a week) before they even get considered for OWL. Maybe a similar idea is needed for ESEA?

EDIT: I guess it helps that the AU leagues are free - but I think my points are still relevant for the most part.

The problem is that people still don't understand how important Invite is to the TF2 community, so they just join and leave when they get bored

i came from 1.6/CS:S, and on those games, the "invite players" were treated like gods or something, but on tf2 i was kinda surprised by the proximity of the high level and low level players. this proximity is good and bad at the same time, imo, because invite loses the 'credibility' (i dont think its the right word) and makes the high level not really a big deal, so it doesn't really matters

yuki: I'm one of the rare cases, everyone else is a bitch. There's no way that a lot of people couldn't have had shit come up.

Some of the invite cases are like that, but you're acting as if you can change the attitude of people who would do it regardless. The fact is that most people have a good reason when they do it.

blinKIt's not hard to see which teams shouldn't be in invite and which teams deserve to be there. As far as having "experience" top IM teams play invite teams all the time in scrims and what not. It's really not far off from eachother - you win some, you lose some. The only teams who usually consistently dominate the rest of the pack are Mixup (obviously) and LG. As for the rest you'd want a team with stability and a solid core who are going to suffer through the tough times and continue working through it. Not these mutt invite teams being thrown together 2 days before the invite poll comes out to hope for luck and make it to LAN. Otherwise a month before the season ends they disband yet somehow keep the roster alive to redo the same exact thing the next season. Get "real" hungry teams in invite not just invite caliber pug teams.. That's the point of this post.

Lets look at nNn. Before they picked up powah the previous season in IM they were the 2nd, maybe 3rd best team. Then with powah they win IM and go invite. Powah hadevery intention of going to LAN until his visa was rejected. There is no reason to assume he won't ever get a visa and be able to play at LAN. Frankly, that example is just retarded, even if the point you are making is accurate.

wisebrahIts not dieing but the skill level is DEFINITELY lowering, aside from the top 2-4 teams.

I'm pretty sure they knew from the beginning he wasn't going to LAN which is why mo0se was backing up and going to fill in for him if they made it. That was just an example though. Picking up justin was ideal because he's a similar player.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not hating on powah or nNn he's a great player and they're a great team. I understand the modesty powah but you instantly made them 10x better last season when you joined you're a pretty amazing player.

It just seems like people manipulate the system to keep the same circle jerks consistently flowing in invite instead of letting real teams who have been together step in and give it a shot who are actually hungry to continue moving up.

I don't really care who gets who I like the competition it wouldn't be fun steam rolling everyone. Kappows team is good with or without powah. Anything can happen in the playoffs look at last season with randos perfect record. It really comes down to the maps since each team has certain play styles suited for each map.

Oh and arizona.. Mike is just roster riding. He played this week because Arcs car died and couldn't get the cheap mexican mechanic out there for 2 days (where he was stranded) so he had to stay at a motel.

powah was applying for a visa to come to america and talking to his sponsor to see if they would pay his way to LAN and trying to make all possible accommodations he could to fit LAN into his schedule. not sure how that equates to "they knew he wasn't going to LAN!!!!" moose joined the roster september 9th, when they found out powah wasn't going to be able to attend LAN.

The only real circle jerks present are those formed by average players (eg you) that lucked into div1 and were promptly removed from said div1 team.

For the record I am very cooled

@ brown: for the record, there's obviously no way I (or anyone for that matter,
ar ESEA doing something with rules) can actually change peoples attitudes on staying vs just plain ditching a team. But they NEED to stopleaving if the only reason is "not winning". If your team is serious about the game and trying to improve, it is petty to leave just because they aren't instantly producing outstanding results. And I already stated that those with serious circumstances are obviously not assholes as they have every right to, no matter how much it sucks for the team (rl -> video games).

Shit obviously happens. Doesn't ALWAYS happen :/

Lets look at nNn. Before they picked up powah the previous season in IM they were the 2nd, maybe 3rd best team. Then with powah they win IM and go invite.
Powah hadevery intention of going to LAN until his visa was rejected. There is no reason to assume he won't ever get a visa and be able to play at LAN. Frankly, that example is just retarded, even if the point you are making is accurate.

I don't get how powah made us 10x better. Like yes he made us better because hes an amazing player and good teammate, but damn, if we still beat you being 10x worst, jesus you must be shit. And I also wouldn't talk for other teams if you weren't on it, because the people who know the true story of what happened to each team, are "shocker I know" The players on the actual team!

Actually we beat you before you got powah, with sting. Jesus is right. You guys are a great team without him but with him you're obviously much better. That's all I was saying.

It would be nice if there was some sort of deterrent for players to quit mid season. It would have to be a subjective basis so that players like Powah would be fine since he's not playing for a legit reason but players like Weeble wouldn't be allowed to play for a season.

Would this be hard to implement? Just locking a player out of ESEA for a season or two if they bail on their team, thereby dissolving it.
