What I started doing is staring at the enemies feet rather than their hitbox except for airshots.
Sometimes I don't even know someone's hats because of it haha.
Made a big difference for me, thought I'd share.

Just spend lots of time in MGE/Soap DM. You'll find that you'll just naturally get better dm as you play more.
