Well, the first thing, even before you get a mentor, equalizing shouldn't be so difficult. You take the equalizer off right before the entrance to mid.

Shoot ground twice. Pull out equalizer. Run to mid.

Edit: escape plan, sorry. Ill always call it an equalizer.
