So yeah, I'm buying a new motherboard, CPU, GPU and some new RAM. Should i also buy a new Pc case and a power supply? My old one is like 5 years old 550W case + power supply so I'm a little afraid that it might blow up or something.

In case i need to buy these, what do you guys recommend? Nothing too expensive please, I already spent enough money on other things

Just wondering, but will your 550w PSU handle your new hardware's power needs? If so, no need to replace it.

You don't need to get a new case unless you found it your system getting too hot.

If I were you I'd get a new PSU. A PSU with 550W is kind of low for a lot of today's rigs and it's not something you should really skimp out on.

Im buying an Intel i5 2500k, asrock z77 extreme4, gforce 560 ti and 4 gigs of ram. Is 550w not enough for that?

You need to add up your wattage uses for each element in your computer and if its <550, you should be fine. But you should also keep in mind to check your HD (or each of them if you have more than one), and add those as well. Chances are just from what you described you're going to need more power. If it were me, if that number came close to 550 at all, I'd get a new one- you need some leeway. Excess power is never bad in a PC, particularly for future expansion/hardware changes.

Is your motherboard the same form factor as your case?

Def upgrade the power supply, go at least 750w

The case is totally optional. You can almost always reuse a case

i run pretty much the same setup on a 450w psu

completely unnecessary

components are more power efficient now than ever

Depends on the make/model of the PSU. Some 550W are garbage and some are really good.

But after 5 years it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade it.

That's true, but his is 5+ years old, and you can get a nice corsair modular 750w pretty cheap these days. He may not need 750w but I always overshoot with my psu wattage because you never know, it may come in handy later.

Everyone has their own methods.
