I would recommend the Sennheiser HD 558's (very similar to 598's) and a zalman mic. http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-558-Headphones/dp/B004FEEY9A

HyperX Cloud is a good headset apparently, probably the only headset worth buying from what I've heard. Never used it before though so idk. here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeoyJBwHc3U
Tek Syndicate looks like they know what they're talking about

recently bought Superlux HD-668 B headphones. been happy with it so far. Probably the best you can find in its price range. here's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0UOju9Ruxw

this was suggested in a previous headphones thread, was also considering buying this: http://www.amazon.com/AKG-240-Semi-Open-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA
Amazon doesn't ship headphones to my country sadly so I couldn't buy it, but they're really good apparently and for that price they're a steal

99% of the time when you ask about a mic people will recommend a Zalman: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00029MTMQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_1&smid=A1TSN35NIS24VZ
Bought it recently with the Superlux headphones. It works. Has some static every now and then and for some reason my PC can't detect it, but it works. I don't know why. Has some issues when using discord but mumble, skype, etc are fine. It's cheap. It does its job
If you want a more expensive better mic, get an Antlion modmic

Go to r/headphones. There's multiple guides for headphones on there and they probably know their stuff better than most people here

+1 to the sennheisers above. to be fair, i got the 598's for $100 but the 558's are fairly comparable.

sorta unrelated: does anyone have a little walk-through for the zalman? i see it linked all the time and recently purchased one, but it sounds pretty awful.

You're either lying or were dumb enough to buy fake ones, twice.

Gonna have to second this. I also bought the xiaomi pistons after recommendations from tf.tv purchasing them from a seller confirmed real by others in a thread. After about 2 months I lost 40% audio in the right ear and after another month gone completely. I've owned over 5 different brands of earbuds and a few models from each and the xiaomi's are pretty low on the list in terms of quality. Granted I rarely spend under 50$ for a pair of buds, but even still I would not recommend them. Any Sennheiser product or what I currently am using the Mee Audio M-Duo are a significantly higher quality product that what I have seen out of xiaomi.

Also claiming stupidity or dishonesty about a product just because a customer had a different experience than yourself is just rude,

Well that's a completely different story than claiming they were broken out of the box don't you think?(twice even rofl) There play so many factors in earbuds losing sound on one side and you should know that, both my sony and sennheiser earbuds broke with this problem, so not recommending a product because it died of the #1 problem of fragile little electronic devices is kind of stupid don't you think? It's like saying don't buy a samsung because my screen broke.

now go into properties, it could be that skype has exclusive control

http://i.imgur.com/9OKRH2r.png

alternatively it could be that it is not the default device (looking at ur image it might be the issue)

if none of this fixes it, just try to reinstall the driver.

going to bed now so i'll be back to help in the morning
