Hey, I am starting to do some planning for a bball tournament that will be January 24th. I will need 2-3 servers and maybe a caster to stream on twitch.tv. I will be taking in 16 teams for the tournament, signups will be after I can get a few servers. Not sure if there will be a buyin or not. I would rather it be convinient for all the ballers playing in the tourney. Post your thoughts and replies here. Thanks. Add me here for questions and concerns http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198043151908/

Yes, i have grant. This will be a success though. This will be a lot more organized. I have just finished playing in 2 tournaments, one of them was very unorganized and the other was an mge 2v2 bball tournament and was not fun. I want to make this one very organized so everyone will enjoy it.

JDawg This will be a success though.

I like his confidence. I'd give him a shot, if it's a flop, who cares. It's always good to have more people involved with making tournaments and other community stuff.

Dreamboat, when is kevispwn's tourney? I will try to find it. I would like to sign up for it. Gargle, i would like to have enough servers so i can get the tourney over with kind of quick. The first one i played in was unorganized. We had 2-3 servers but only 1 caster total. So it went very slow, no one really likes a slow tournament, do they? And thanks Scilliant.

I mean I doubt if its just a small tourney with 16 teams you won't get a high level caster to cast it probably only one intermediate one, for you I'd recommend evl gaming but honestly I see no point in more than one server. 16 games = like 2-3 hours if you don't have that much time then you shouldn't even be making this.

JDawgDreamboat, when is kevispwn's tourney? I will try to find it.

It hasn't been announced yet because we're currently housing a 2v2 mge tourney. REALTourney will be hosting a bball tournament staying somewhere around early March though.

Gl with your stuff though.

Also, we had a double elim 64 team bracket for ultiduo and we only used two of our four servers at any given time, so having three servers for 16 teams is probably excessive.

Also I didn't mention in my first post because I was on mobile, a lot of people don't understand how much time/ dedication/ consistency it takes to run one of these tournaments. I worked probably 2-5 hours a day on the ultiduo tournament from the day it started until 2 days after it was over, there were 3 more admins that worked with me, and there were still bumps in the REALTourney Ultiduo thing. The first week, I worked a full time job of it (about 7 hours a day every day of the week). Obviously a 16 slot bracket won't be quite so much, but unless you're willing to drop everything to answer someone's question at 3 AM on a Tuesday night, you might want to consider not hosting tourneys.

If you want to continue with this, feel free to ask me anything, and I'd love to help you get stuff organized or whatever via steam or tftv messages.

i think give him a try but no buy in because if it does fold like the last 2 times then you wont have to give back anything. also u only need 1 or 2 servers for 16 teams lol.

Hey JDawg, just a word of advice. If you feel your reputation will be an issue, I would shy away from a buy-in. Instead, I would say to populate the prize pool (assuming you want to give incentive to play) by yourself or with donations. That way you're investing to YOUR project with YOUR confidence, and I would believe people to be more eager to participate (and, in the future, be willing to do other tourneys with buy-ins).

Nah let jdawg have a chance this tourney, I've known him for a while now and buy in or not I feel like this one will actually be successful. Especially with Kevin's help if he asks.

Hey everyone, I will be buying a Chicago server in the morning from nfoservers. I got the suggestion to do the tournament over 2 days, instead of one. So the tournament will be January 23rd and January 24th, hopefully sometime at night. I am not really sure what times to do the tourney, so I would like to see what would be most convenient for the Team Fortress 2 community. The first place team will get 2 keys (1 key per each player). I am welcome to take donations for the 2nd and 3rd place prizes, feel free to add me. The tournament will have 16 teams playing in it. Sign ups start tonight. I would like to have at least 4 backup teams incase a few of the main teams that were planning to play can not make it. I will do a first come first serve and will be fair for everyone.
RULES: 1.) Your primary weapon may only consist of the stock (or festive) rocket launcher, or the original. You may not use the rocket jumper, direct hit, liberty launcher, etc.
2.) You can only use shotgun (or festive shotgun), not gunboats or other secondary weapons.
3.) You may only use the shovel as your melee, the escape plan, market gardener, and anything that is not the stock shovel is restricted.
4.) Shotgun jumping is allowed.
5.) Do not goaltend, you will be warned the first time for it. If you do it a second time, your team will be disqualified.

I am sure there are other rules that should be put into place, so if anyone thinks of anything or has a suggestion, feel free to post it. Thanks. I can't think of anything else that is important to the tournament right now, so if I think of anything I forgot, I will add it to this tf.tv thread.
If you are going to play in the tournament, you must post who you are playing with, and a name of the "team". This will help me to keep the brackets organized with an easy team name to go by.

Just to make sure everything is clear, you might want to specify what counts as "goal tending" and what doesn't, otherwise people might argue that what they were doing wasn't goaltending.

JDawg4.) Shotgun jumping is allowed

Thanks for making this happen, jdawg.
I suggest that we ban shotty jumping because it's not fun to play against nor is it entertaining to watch. Let's be honest. People go to please to be enjoying not to be bodyblocked and shottied but rather to enjoy it. We should keep it that way.

This is pretty much why I never play tournaments.

But on the other hand, you can't really police jump shotgun. Is it a matter of how close I am? What If I'm jumping from your side of the court and shotgunning you in the back because you got past me? What if I know you're like 10 hp and I just spawned, so I jump forward, and shotgun you at half court to take the intel from you?

It's a nice idea, but it can't realistically be stopped. Not to mention it's just as easy to bodyblock and use rockets.
