i agree with this generally but some things that really shit on pubs even if you're a bad player should be reworked because new player retention is just as important as the balance of the game at a high level imo and dying to shit that feels unfair/braindead to use is a fast track to getting players to leave.

right now that's namely pyro I would say

theoretically you could replace pocket scout and be better at protecting your med and worse at everything else (lol) but with the medic scout speed buff you're pretty much just a downgrade in every possible respect

idk if you've read the thread but literally all the people who say that a certain direction will push tf2 toward being an esport are the people advocating for unbanning unlocks and shit lol.

edit: also other games have developers that listen directly to top competitive players and balance for the pro scene and such their decisions are usually not totally terrible. tf2 developers have a history of making changes that are straight up terrible and only get reversed through massive community backlash (initial demo nerf, bison nerf, that sword that makes you charge longer nerf, etc.)

slin if anything comp should distance itself from casual mode as much as possible because it is probably the most hated thing ever among casual players (and comp players, seriously casual blows). also idk if you've actually played casual but community servers were 100% more competitive and still are.

also the stream thing is hidden when you start the game so nobody looks at it lol
