#128 nerf pyro in TF2 General Discussion

I've used it in 7s and in the NA Essentials Cup(which are basically the only places you can run it) and i have 18000 posts arguing about Pyro mechanics on SPUF. I think i am qualified to say it is complete fucking trash.

Also, if the Dragon's Fury projectile is so easy to hit, why do you need "knowledge on the technical side of things" at all?

#29 nerf pyro in TF2 General Discussion

The Detonator is not the main problem. The new Flamethrower’s M1 is very good and takes literally no skill, and the Detonator and Scorch do a passable job of covering for Pyro’s weaknesses (bad speed, bad range, bad mobility).

If you want to suggest a Pyro nerf it MUST make flamethrower require aim (and yes, old Flamethrower required aim.). Everything else is secondary.

That being said, I would like to see changes to the Detonator and Scorch. Afterburn is too strong for how easily it’s applied, it should work in tiers of increasing intensity depending on how many shots are hit. The fact that they destroy stickytraps is also utter bullshit.

But.

I think people refuse to think about how they should be fighting Pyros. They’re playing as if they are playing against Soldier or Scout when they are not, and are getting shit on for it. For years I have begged people to MGE against my Pyro to no avail because they think the matchup is either completely unwinnable or just not fun. Only two 6s players have played more than 2-3 rounds before quitting forever, pre-Jungle or post.

People think the Dragon’s Fury deserves to be banned when it’s actually utter garbage (and doesn’t work on a third of the geometry of half the maps) People saying reflecting is easy and takes no skill or thought. Or that Pyro wins every 1v1, or is the best 1v1 class. These are the kind of things that make me think that maybe nobody knows what the fuck they’re talking about. Where are the Heavies and Sentries and Shotgun pockets to obliterate the Pyro? Where is the flank pressre that the Pyro can’t do shit about because he’s slow and has shit range and shit spam? Where is the walking backwards while pumping hitscan into the Pyro and wasting his 8-10 airblasts with stickies? I haven’t seen anyone attempt to adjust to the Flamethrower changes and I don’t think we, as a community, should be fucking with Pyro until attempts are made.

I mean seriously, the class is countered almost completely by pressing S and not shooting rockets at him.

Also Detonator isn’t actually good at putting out damage at long range in fights. It’s good at getting trash damage in stalemates that you can’t capitalize on because Pyro is a shit class, and prolonging stalemates by denying sacs.

#22 Should a revved heavy have immediate 540 DPS? in TF2 General Discussion
BooleanReducing rate of fire and REDUCING SPREAD (making it MORE accurate) is what I'm talking about.

Ah, whoops.

This would bring his initial damage way down while making heavy drastically more mobile so I'm not sure why you don't like it.

It doesn't make Heavy more mobile? I don't like it because it doesn't increase the amount of counterplay or make Heavy more nuanced / difficult / skill-indexed. It's still the same Minigun with tweaked numbers. The fundamental problem hasn't changed.

The Minigun may not ever be your favorite weapon in the game to play against but that's no reason to just whine about it instead of having a fun little theoretical discussion at how it could be more fun to play against

I am literally the only person in this thread to offer a non-joke suggestion, I don't understand why you're upset at me in particular for "just whining about it instead of having a fun little theoretical discussion."

#15 spoiling match results in title in Site Discussion
bleghfarecPersonally I like having the result in the title for stylistic reasonsArguedOysterIt means I don't have to actually click on the link and start reading to find out who won.
Isn't that what news headlines are for? Glance at it and know what's up and then read the article to find out more? Personally, I like my news giving me spoilers.

There could be an option in settings so everyone is happy.

A much easier way to go about it (without having to code spoiler-hiding) would be to just write a spoiler title and a non-spoiler title for every article and letting people change their preference in options.

#13 spoiling match results in title in Site Discussion
SpadesHow about you write the results stories instead

If any writer wants to spoiler-proof their titles but isn't sure how to do it, I'll be happy to help.

SpadesThe only work arounds are to not hawkeye the threads being made about it

Yes, you can avoid the threads, but you can't avoid the titles of the threads. Hence, my complaint.

(you can unsub from news threads but i guess it cant be done )

You can unsubscribe from News, but you'll still see the Community News tab in the top-left. It's also on the home page.

or to physically be at the LAN

If I'm paying loads of money to fly out and hang with my friends in person, and I can only do this a few times a year, I'm not going to spend 10-15+ hours watching other people play TF2 when I could just as easily do that at my own desk.

#20 Should a revved heavy have immediate 540 DPS? in TF2 General Discussion

You’re missing the point. Reducing RoF doesn’t make aiming as Heavy more difficult or more fun to play against, it makes it more inconsistent. Increasing spread doesn’t make Heavy more difficult or more fun to play against, it makes it more inconsistent and reduces range.

The best way I can think of to fix Minigun is to reduce up front damage, and give it a damage boost (and maybe damage resist) that increases with accuracy and decreases with misses and over time. That way you can keep Heavy’s high damage potential without the issue of bad players being able to mow down people because to kill a Scout, they only need 3 bullets to hit out of the 20 they can spray out in 5 seconds. There’s more of an element of counterplay - you can avoid taking damage by hiding or focusing on super evasive movement to reduce their DPS.

Even then, the unavoidable problem is the Minigun just isn’t fun to play against by nature. The Minigun is easy to aim, hard to dodge, and the Heavy is immobile while firing as well. He really just needs something as radical as the Dragon’s Fury, or the Jetpack, that completely changes everything about him. Maybe if Valve are attached to the idea of a Minigun, it could work like a banner or an Overwatch ult and give him a completely different normal primary.

#1 spoiling match results in title in Site Discussion

I don’t like that the Rewind article titles are spoiling the results of the matches with things like “Ascent eclipse Velocity.”

Maybe the titles to these articles could be hidden until clicked, with a description like “Froyo vs Se7en” or “Rewind UBF” or something, with an option to turn the spoilers off in user settings. Currently you can unsubscribe to the “News” forum, but the community news tab can’t be hidden, unless I’m missing something. I’m also not sure such a drastic measure is worth pursuing since it means less awareness of community stuff.

Or just forgo spoiler titles entirely, but I feel like that might reduce hype too much, I dunno.

Not everyone can watch matches live factoring in timezones and other responsibilities. Sure, you could say, “avoid TFTV”, but going through an entire lan of footage is a daunting undertaking, and I feel like telling people to NOT bring traffic to your website is the opposite of what website owners want to do.
