#3 Steampipe 2 map folders in Q/A Help

#2 the idea behind steampipe was to leave the default folders alone.

For the OP, there are technically three places for maps

#1 tf\maps: this is for default maps, leave this folder alone

#2 tf\download\maps: this if for maps that you downloaded during play, e.g. the surf server you are on switches maps and you need to download the new map.

#3 tf\custom\FOLDER\maps: this is for maps that you personally have downloaded from places like gamebanana, e.g. the maps for this season of open.

The only caveat is that maps in the tf\download\maps folder will not show up when you try to create a server through the gui.

#62 New Mic/Headset Advice in Hardware
thrasherso i went ahead and picked up the AD700s today. Ive been using them all day and I can honestly say that I dont see (or hear, technically) what all the fuss is about. Now im no audiophile but I do love music. I have been listening to all kinds of different genres on these today, as well as movies, and obviously gaming. While I do notice a subtle difference, its just that... subtle. I think im gonna return these and go back to my old headset =/

just my 2 cents for anyone considering getting a pair.

The AD700 excel with classical, acoustic, and other bass light (but still requires accurate bass) music with many different instruments. They are not that great for movies either. They really excel with soundstage representation which greatly helps positional accuracy especially while playing fps games. That is why they are recommended for people switching from a gaming headset, it generally is comparable to one except for its massive soundstage.

Also, I would give the headphones a week before you decide to return them, it generally takes a while before you get used to a pair of headphones. After that week try playing with your old headset and if you don't notice a difference then return them.

Blacks for gaming

Topre for typing (but I cannot justify the cost of buying one for myself)

#5 tf.tv has third most custom twitch icons in TF2 General Discussion
tehh4ck3rDid twitch get rid of controltheflank and controltheuniverse? =(

They got rid of all text "faces" about a month ago, unfortunately. The only ones left are if they are particularly relevant like Siglemic's 12.X faces.

#3 tf.tv has third most custom twitch icons in TF2 General Discussion

Tf.tv definitely does not have the third most icons.

Use http://twitchemotes.com/ it is always up (twitchtvfaces was down for practically forever), it is always updated, and the icons are the actual icons, not copy pastes.

#9 Audio Technica Ad700s in Hardware
snailStochast1cNo, unless your on-board sound is absolutely terrible.
Chances are, his onboard is absolutely terrible.
IIRC, the asus xonar DGX and DG both have onboard amps if you're looking for a soundcard.

Most on board sound today is actually pretty decent. The only reason to get a separate DAC would be if you hear pops and clicks in your music for no good reason. The AD700s are plenty efficient to be run from on-board power regardless. No need to speed money on a card unless you have a definite problem, the gains from it are minimal.

#18 P-rec was updated in TF2 General Discussion
DamnKetoAwesome, but I got one question:
Where do I put the directory of saved demos?
I mean, prec_dir "what"?

Haven't tried it yet, but if it works like it did before it is a relative path to the tf folder, it will make the directory if there isn't one.

#9 TF2 Daily? What do you think? in TF2 General Discussion
t00lThanks for the input already. My original goal was to have four 20-30 min shows each week, probably monday-thursday. I am sure that this will prove to be hard to reproduce this length, but honestly I can spend 20 minutes of my day talking about tf2 without much problem.

Funday Monday is eventually one of my goals. I love this daily theme and think it can transition well to tf2.

I did want to try to have at least one day of the week be targeted toward the more advanced, competitive side of tf2, similar to what Day9 does with his replay analyses. This way the program could be a great bridge between the casual pubber and the super serious invite player.

I'd be more than happy to include international coverage, but I am not sure how this would fit in a weekly format. I know day9 will have themes each week, and maybe Euro theme could be one?

I think fully charged is a great program and I do not expect this to take off to that level immediately, but rather, i'd like to gain an audience that I can grow through semi-daily programing.

I'm pretty sure anybody can spend 20 minutes of time talking about what they love, but the question is can you make all 20 of the minutes worthwhile, see Fully Charged, 45 minute long episode with about 10 minutes of actual content leads to a small viewer base and no real push to watch a missed episode.

#3 TF2 Daily? What do you think? in TF2 General Discussion

I think this would work really well, but I would recommend that you keep segments short no more than 5 or so minutes lest you get burned out and stop doing them (unless you want this to be your job). I really like the Newbie Daily, Pub tips, and Interview ideas, they are things that are generally lacking in the community. While more demo reviews is always a good thing, I don't see them fitting into this kind of show.

Keeping the videos short would allow you to cover one topic without losing viewer interest. For example, one cast could be about offclassing and when is a good time to do it. It would also serve to make a nice guide in video form about practically every topic in tf2 by the time you are done.

#2 Moving on to ESEA - Need some help in Q/A Help

I highly recommend playing in ESEA, even if you get 5-0'd in every match (you won't I promise that) you will learn so much over the course of the season. As long as you know the basics of the flow of the game then I wouldn't worry.

#6 Playing with earbuds, having audio problem in Off Topic

Might be a bad connection with your headphones. Try unplugging and plugging back in. Have you tested it with other audio? Have you tested them on a different device?

#11 any ideas for a new mic? in TF2 General Discussion

Personally, get a Zalman clip-on (~$10) as a temporary solution and when the modmic v4 comes out pick that up as a permanent solution (~$30).

Since you just sniped me asking about v4 details, the only information we have right now can be found in this blog post:

#35 The Future Of Competitive Team Fortress 2 in TF2 General Discussion
crumpet#11 nobody wants to pay for pugs on a shitty client when they get them for free already

And that's why I said make them not terrible. Incentives such as winning small prizes can mitigate the cost to pay. Actually having a system where hackers can't ruin pugs would be something that is worthwhile. The more we were to actually use ESEA pugs the lower the possibility of ESEA dropping us.
