#10 TFTV Community HUD Proposal in Customization

One idea I've been thinking about was a hud installer that mods the base files directly, so that it for the most part works after updates and has the potential to be incredibly customizable. Give options like font usage, health/ammo positioning, backgrounds or shadows, etc. to the user rather than the hud maker, you know? In a way just make an easy to edit hud system rather than a single custom hud.

I'll help out with this for sure, but I'm wondering if a hodgepodge of people's favorites in one hud with little/no customization will really fix the issue of not enough good huds. There are just way too many personal preferences that go into it to have just one hud, unless we're talking about including a ridiculous amount of customization options.

#5 New HUD Idea / Request in Customization
EricYou have a handful of options here:
  • forgo compatibility and stick to smaller boxes
  • use a narrow-enough typeface to suit your needs
  • use outlines or shadows to enhance readability instead of backgrounds
  • integrate an aesthetic that allows your values to exceed the boxes' boundaries (see: default HUD)

Could also create a font for the background panels where instead of legible numbers it's just blocks, allowing them to dynamically resize if more digits/wider characters get introduced. Though I'm pretty sure you'd need to stop using alpha values for this, since overlapping characters (the only way you'd get curved edges) that're transparent don't 'combine' and overlap the way you'd expect.

#244 Prism HUD & Clean TF2 in Customization
Kond3PWhat parts of the hud are conflicting with dx8? Gun Mettle decreased my fps by like 30% and I'd still like to be able to play the game with this hud.

Refracts don't work in dx8. The healthcross is the biggest thing that uses refracts to get its shape circular, and you can change the healthcross in the options, but things like scoreboard or build menu or ingame main menu that use it without any customization options.

dbzis this gonna get updated anytime soon?

I just updated the dropbox and github downloads for Prism HUD now. It should be a hotfix that enables the whole update, but I'm not sure or able to test everything about it and feedback would be much appreciated. As for adding the things I've been meaning to add, they're still a wip.

I've got plans for updating clean tf2 (re-organize and get some particle removals working in sv_pure 0 again mostly) but I've still got a few things to test before I can.

#14 6v6 NA Rules = EU Rules ? in TF2 General Discussion

Can someone say what the differences between leagues/regions are? I thought I knew the ruleset differences but this thread's made me realize that I've got no clue.

#2 Creating a custom background cycle in Customization

For step 5 when it says to copy/paste the same one to a bunch of different filenames, instead use your other images.

Adding more background images than tf2 comes with, or making them cycle through like in prism hud are a bit more work, but we'll cross that path when we get to it.

#2 Custom HUD causing graphic bugs in Customization

It looks from your screenshots that you're using transparent viewmodels. Is he running dx8?

#4 Change red damage indicator size in Customization
Pellovleyis it possible to change the color of the damage indicators with this?

Unfortunately no. The damage indicators themselves are images, this just says how to resize/place them on the hud.

You could always edit the vtf itself, but that'd only work in sv_pure 0.

how did you make that shadow?

Create a second font declaration and put "blur" "number" into it.

I did the same thing in my huds.tf contest entry, where the fonts were

"HealthAndAmmoText"
		{
			"1"
			{
				"name" 		"Source Sans Pro Black"
				"tall"		"70"
				"antialias" "1"
			}
		}
		"HealthAndAmmoTextShadow"
		{
			"1"
			{
				"name" 		"Source Sans Pro Black"
				"tall"		"70"
				"antialias" "1"
				"blur"		"2"
			}
		}

For example.

kounterpartsAny news on a Prism HUD update?

I thought school would be getting better after a while ago, but it's just gotten worse. I'll be good in like two weeks though with school being done and work being only a couple hours a week. Though I do also have some ideas for new huds that I've been wanting to experiment with.

I've got ideas for an update, and do plan to keep it up to date with patches, but I can't really work on that currently. It's pretty late coming but expect something :/

PotchHow do I make my cosmetics not so fucked up
the basketball shoes for demo and scout have a disgusting heu, black and white are reversed, all cosmetics are really bad.

how do i color correct them?

Get rid of unlit_playermodels

The way it works is by using a pretty barebones shader that doesn't include lighting. It also doesn't include many of the things that things like hats use, mostly paintable stuff. So you're pretty much stuck with it like that or completely default.

#18 TFTV Creating a New Crosshair Font in Customization

I have a few crosshair fonts hanging around that'd probably be good for reference.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/u3hrz2uogji7fsw/crosshairfonts.zip?dl=1
There's a lot of non-font crosshairs on GB too that might be neat:
http://gamebanana.com/guis/search?search=crosshair&gameid=297
http://gamebanana.com/sprites/search?search=crosshair&gameid=297

Knuckles_Geknaiirno uneven/unsmoothed crosshairs please
^only reason why i hated most of fog's crosshairs

I'm not sure what the smoothing issue is, but if a crosshair feels uneven, try a couple differnet sizes to make sure the game isn't just rounding the pixels and making it look uneven

Might be what Geknaiir's talking about, but they aren't all centered the same way. Nothing major if you're only using one crosshair and the label's centered, but using more than one at once (minor but noticeable difference) or having the label be oriented east/west (closecaptions mostly, major difference) it becomes pretty obvious.

Not really worth a whole new font over (though I'm pretty sure that's what crosshairs3.ttf is in my little collection), but if you're making one then be sure you're centering them the same from the get go.

Would you mind showing the ammo counter?

Might just be me, but I don't really like the streak counter being up there.

Pretty much what you'd expect.

I'm always hesitant with the killstreak but don't know how I can keep it consistent anywhere else :/

#19 WTF happened to my friends TF2 in Customization
dollarlayerJarateKingIt's definitely clean tf2.
Definitely NOT clean tf2. He used a pastebin of the same config I use. Secondly, this has only happened to him once since he started using the config where it rendered those textures that way. The end result may be similar to "clean tf2" but that's not what he's using... I just wanted to make it clear that this is the result of the game not loading some textures properly for some strange reason.

It's to-the-pixel clean tf2. Hypothetically, the lighting probably could've accidentally happened by a random gpu glitch or tweak, but which materials are and aren't flat, what colors they become when they are flat, how the fire particles work, what props to remove (the grass), etc. would have no way to be identical. And those error messages are exactly what you'd see when using the mod, nothing more and nothing less. The end result isn't similar, it's literally the same thing dude.

Sorry to disappoint but dying video cards, gpu tweaks, and engine glitches just don't give you those exact results, and definitely not that exactly. You could get sorta similar things, but those graphics are literally exactly what clean tf2 does. Probably some mixup somewhere, maybe he got comanglia's cfg from my thread and thought both of them together were his "cfg" and then got confused when it only showed up on sv_pure 0 servers, idk, but I'm 100% sure that's clean tf2.
