I tried upscaling my vid from 720p to 1080p but the quality on YT still seems quite dodgy, would upscaling to 1440p fix this, and what bitrate should I use in that case?

Youtube bitrate at 1080p generally just sucks and looks quite bad most of the time so it's usually worth upscaling to 1440p. You can find what the maximum bitrate for different resolutions is here (its 24Mbps for 1440p although I usually use 26). Despite this you should try to record at 1080p at least because you can only upscale footage so much before it starts to look really bad (which you'd probably find it would going from 720 -> 1440).
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the response! I'll try that the next time I make a video. Big fan of your vids btw.
